Wasn’t too sure about this but as it ranked so high on Tripadvisor we decided to give it a go. We booked tickets inside and killed a couple of hours nearby before returning for the guided tour.

It was really interesting and so lovely architecture inside. Overall a great way to spend an hour or so and lots of photo opportunities.

We walked over from the Pest side of the river and came up to the castle via a funicular and eventually walked across to the church and the fishermen’s bastion. This is a special magical area over in Buda right on the Danube. Highly recommended.

We went to a recital one evening which was lovely. The area around the basilica has lots of cafes and restaurants.

The best view is from the Pest side or from a boat on the river. This is the starting point of many long river voyages. You can also take a two-hour cruise. Later at night is best, skip the dinner cruises.

The palace grounds provides a panoramic view of the Danube River and the City of Pest. It’s worth the effort to get there. It’s easily accessible by the trams and by the funicular railroad. The views are spectacular. Some of the buildings are being restored. There is a bar on the grounds where you can get a couple glasses of wine, sit by the statue in front of the palace and watch the world go by. Best place for people watching.

Easily missed but very worth the time to find. This compelling, sad memorial is an important reminder of the horrors of the World War and the senseless murders of so many around the world. Visit as a family to start important conversations about history.

A lovely break from the hustle and bustle of the city; easily accessible by tram from the city centre. You can either walk through the park or hire a cart to cycle round; either are a great option. Beautifully maintained with lots of flowers, there is also a monastery at the end of the walk which is lovely. We spent about 2-3 hours here and it costs nothing for entry. There are food carts dotted around if you want to eat something as well as toilets, but these are usually 250 HUF per visit. Would recommend

To say reaching the top in 30 degrees of afternoon heat and humidity was a trek would be an understatement. To say I was more than delighted that I did, would also be an understatement. The views are spectacular. The views are spectacular. Panoramic. There is an energy about this place that is hard to explain. It almost feels like you become revitalised after every viewing point.

Was so looking forward to seeing it, having seen it feature in so many photos of Budapest... But it is currently closed and completely under cover for renovation.

It was excellent place with great view...a town inside a castle, like you were lost in the previous century...

Amazing- like a portal into the 80s. So many different machines! We thought it could get boring doing the same thing but they had so many other games aside from pinball (we spent 5 hours down there without even realising). Also great as they displayed information about the dates and creators of the machines.

The history of Hungary, offered by Statues of the most influential leaders of their time. This is also the location of many protests and demonstrations so check with the locals before you go

While you’re up the top of the hill it’s really worth dropping in here. You will need to book a tour (we did it when we arrived and waited till it started) and it was very interesting to learn the history of the military hospital and then the nuclear bunker. Sadly you can’t take photos but you can buy many a gas mask in the souvenir shop!!
Similar to the hospitals on Guernsey and Jersey
