Different flowers bloom each season, so it's worth visiting more than once. After visiting the palm house, you will feel how small humans are compared to the world of plants. It's a good, quiet place.

When the museum is closed, you can just wander a small park at the base of the tower, but its well built and striking, well worth a small detour

Gliwice is perhaps the only, if not one of the very few, town in the Upper Silesia that can boast of its Town Hall in the middle of the Market Square (in size the market is 75 x 75 meters). The town's rich history that dates back to the second half of the 13th century is another reason which makes it a compelling place to visit.

Great place especially with small kids. 3hours entry is absolutely ok to spend there. Good coffee and some small refreshment in their cafe

Pławniowice is located around 20 min driving distance from the center of Gliwice . Great place to have a good meal , rest on the sandy beach to have the laze day or you like the water sports activities where you can rent some sports gear in the near marina "SZKWAŁ". Near by the lake you will also find beautiful old palace with unique architecture.

The Gliwice Railway Station was opened on October 2nd 1845. The construction of the line was finally completed on October 3rd 1846. The line consisted of 196.3 kilometers was opened by the Prussian King Frederick William IV.
In the years 2015-2016 the station and platforms were completely rebuilt.
After renovation the station lok very nice and the platforms are very modern.
I recommend to go and see this station if you are near by.

Gliwice was a small city, but was considered the best fortified city in Upper Silesia. Perhaps because after it was a separate duchy for a short time, it was divided and there were two small castles in it. This was perhaps one of them. But it's little more than an extended tower, and it's known as Zameczek, a small castle. It used to serve as a residence for Cetrycz family, but is known under the name of Piasts, the royal dinasty of Poland, which survived the longest in Silesia.

It is a tower and a small building next to it, with a remaint of a city wall next to it. There's also an ice age stone in front of it, and, since the 00's, a quite ugly statue of king Stefan Batory.

In front of it, there's a square. It used to have some trees and was used for commerce, but at a point in the 90's it was decided that a fountain imitating a moat was supposed to be built there. While it sounds fun, it was horrible. Not only it doesn't look like a moat, the water used to destroy the grass, wash out the ground and thus clog the system, so it ceased to work soon. Some changes were made to it and it is functional, but still it's a place that could be much nicer without this change.

Inside, there's a museum, a bit densely stuffed and eclectic.

A neo-gothic brick church built at the very end of the 19th and the very start of the 20th century, notable for a high single big tower and use of a clinker brick at some places.

Since the 90's it's illuminated in a nice way, and it's the nicest at night actually.

There is a mosaic of St Peter and Paul over the main entrance, and some stained glass there and elsewhere.

There are many statues etc inside, including in the main altar, side altars, the pulpit etc. Some of the pulpit and of the baptismal font were stolen in the 90's.

The altar etc used to be greyish-golden, but were changed to brown-golden during renovation.

Since the 90's the church was made a cathedral.

There used to be more modern images of the stations of the cross around the church, but most of them were covered and replaced with more traditional wooden sculptures, apart from some behind the altar.

There is also a more modern chapel of the adoration of the holy heart on the left.

The benches and the confessionals are made of wood.

It is a Roman-catholic cathedral, but in the 90's it was visited by an Armenian-Catholic patriarch and some bishops and archbishops, who celebrated a mass there.

    There are organ concertos sometimes.

While some people did visit the tower, it is not possible in general.

Unlike what some people wrote here, this church isn't the oldest in Gliwice.
And while it's often said it comes from 15th century (the tower even the first years of 16th century) and that while there was undoubtly an older church there, it was probably wooden, I was once in a prelecture that said that:
    1) The toder is 16th century, yes, and much of the church is 15th century, but
    2) the ceiling of the choir is typical for an artist active in Silesia in 14th century, and
    3) the walls of the lower choir are more thick than the upper part, meaning they are probably older, coming from an earlier version of the church, perhaps even from the 13th century, partly.
The church is made of bricks mostly, decorated with some baroque statues inside. There are smaller baroque helmets on the smaller towers. The biggest tower used to have such one too, but it was destroyed at some point. Before ww2 it had a very modest roof there, and after ww2 it has a new major cross there, allegedly with a tin offered by my grand-grandpa, taken from Ukraine.
The tower was in bad shape and was strenghtened with concrete inside. You can climb it at some times, which may be tiresome for some. You can not enter the very highest level, with the cross, but one immediately under it. There's a magnificent view of the entire city from there.
At the lowest part of the tower there are some, probably baroque, frescos that used to deteriorate and fall apart through all of my childhood. Only recently some care was taken of them.

The main attraction here to my mind (to people who are interested in Jewish history of course) is not the Jewish cemetery itself (of which there are many in Poland) but the building adjacent to it, which used to be the Jewish funeral home, lay abandoned and dilapidated for many years, and was recently lovingly restored by the Gliwice municipality. It houses a very good exhibition on the history of Silesian Jews, which of course were mostly German Jews
