Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stawell is a prosperous Australian country town that was created by the discovery of gold in Victoria in the 1850s by exploring miners, many of whom were Chinese. Apart from its link with the precious yellow metal, Stawell is famous for the sprint event, the Stawell Gift, which is among the richest athletic events in Australia. The Gift is a famous professional event, the prize is that draws popular attention all over Australia; the Gift is worth a fortune. Stawell is also connected to the Grampians, a mountainous Australian rugged region. Stawell is a popular calling point, it's a Victorian country station for The Overland, the rail link between Melbourne and Adelaide. Stawell is also popular with travelers.

Nice fenced viewing area with educational boards (both adult & kid version)
showing the gold mine process. Good location to view much of the machinery.
Boys saw the masked and helmeted miners above ground & wandering about.
“Interested in future career?” … nah, shrug.
This white collar fella is mildly envious!

I walked the 2 kilometre loop, which was adequately but not intrusively signposted. It was a very pleasant easy walk in box-ironbark forest with a good understorey, which must be spectacular in springtime. I saw a shingleback lizard.

We came to Stawell specifically because it is the home of the Stawell Gift therefore it was very interesting to have a look at this Hall of Fame.

There were a number of familiar names and some interesting bits of history.

As we were leaving a small group of people with different abilities arrived and the lady let them come in for free. I thought that was very nice.

Make sure that you visit if you come to Stawell

This is an impressive building and a historical church. Best of all is the lovely Reverend Susan, and the people who make up the congregation. Third Saturday of every month, the church members operate a Pop-Up shop in the church hall. This involves a great deal of work over several days. There are church members who bring their special skills to this enterprise, and you can see that love, care and talent in abundance goes into the shop. The shop sells good quality second hand clothing, bric a brac, books, jewellery, hats, bags, shoes, fabric, craft items, vintage articles. There is also a table of donated plant cuttings, fruit and vegetables that are free. Members of the congregation also provide morning tea, which is available for a donation.
All the goodies in the shop are donated, so stock on the day is what has been gifted to the church, and all monies raised go to charities. The shop opens at 9 am to 12 md.
    Sales are in cash.

Could be so much better with graded dirt roads (quite hazardous and deep ditches). Information boards and signs wouldn’t go astray. Still worth a look. Use google maps bcos there is no signage

People have stopping here for years to stretch their legs and use toilets. Great wetland walk. Watch out for the magpies though.

Built in 1874 and originally a English congregational church before becoming a lutheran church in 1957. The Hill organ is very rare and was built in 1859 and has been in many different churches before ending up here. The church itself is nothing special compared to other churches in area but the organ makes it worth a visit

Stella Young played many parts in her short life -- writer, comedian and disability activist. She died suddenly at the age of 32. The statue commemorating her life is located in Cato Park, in her home town of Stawell, in central Victoria. Although she used a wheelchair, she did not let this hold her back. She described herself as a "crip." Stella Young's statue is one of the few memorials dedicated to female public figures in Victoria.

I lived and worked in Daylesford's spa country for 20 years before moving to my new home in Black Range in 2017.
I was looking for a new adventure and have that, but also knew that I was leaving some of my fave things behind - great coffee available at 7am, big choice of fine food eateries 7 days a week and terrific spa experiences. I soon learned that I could have terrific spa experiences in nearby, Stawell when I discovered Kim Salmi and her business Solace Beauty Lounge and Wellness Spa - great service, lovely products and staff who are focused on bringing you the best experience possible.
But this weekend, I experienced a treatment on a whole new level - far beyond anything I have tried in Daylesford. The Mindfulness Signature Facial.
    To Die For.
Beautiful oils, relaxing facial and a meditation to partner the oils.
I have never experienced anything like this, a facial that took me on a journey.
Great for locals and an experience that visitors will remember as one of the highlights of the Grampians
