Our guide,Ethan, was absolutely fun and really passionate about sharing a lot of facts and information. On top of that, the Aussie playlist was super nice. He was a fantastic guide giving lots of information throughout the tour and also pointing out the wildlife along our drive. He also gave great tips for where to sit and how best to experience the Penguin Parade. The tour began at 1.45pm and we returned to Melbourne around midnight. Mike is a talented tour leader, he helped us bond with our fellow travellers and we all had an absolute blast. Entertaining guy, safe driver and a font of knowledge.

Unfortunately the tour was not what we expected in many ways and was very disappointed on multiple occasions.
1)we were 1 hour delayed due to the bus breaking down and the tour guide had to retrieve another bus. We understood things happen and it was an unfortunate event. However the following issues there was no excuse for the behaviour of our tour guide.
2)Not only our tour guide was unpleasant he was not approachable at all. While on our trip he spoke to parents about their two children being loud and others could not hear him speaking into the microphone. He was very rude and abrupt about this and argued with the mother about the matter in front of everyone. Note the children were not loud at all and was excited to see penguins.
3)once we arrived at our destination he states everyone to listen to him about the time of the pickup and its location. Somebody was doing something and he states in front of everyone”are you serious” employing that they are not listening. Once they stopped what they were doing he continued on talking.He then tells everyone to be back at 10pm on the dot and not 10:01 and pointing at the person who was 1 minute late back when we were stoped to get food before hand. He was very sarcastic about this and stated if anyone was late he would leave without them and did not say this in a joking mater. After this he was giving directions on where to go and see the penguins and was a lot to take in. A lady on the bus asked can you show us instead of telling us where to go. He replied in a rude and sarcastic manner.”I only have so many tickets and if you want that you will have to stay in the bus and I will go instead of you”.
4)we arrived back at the bus at 09:56pm and with two other couples sitting on the front seats near the tour guide. They stated about people being back on time as we were waiting on two more people, keeping in mind it still was not 10:00pm yet. The tour guide said yes he wish he could leave them behind and it’s not good enough and then stated that’s what they do in tours in Europe. Note the two people we were waiting on arrived at 09:58pm.
This was appalling behaviour from the tour guide . We were horrified at this and so was others. Just people note that this was a self guided tour and we paid 134 dollars per person for just transport and very little information. Also we come from Europe and travelled a lot and done many tours and never experienced this behaviour in our life.

He kept a positive attitude throughout the entire experience, despite it being an all-day tour and hours worth of driving. He was always chipper, energetic, and a very safe driver. He also put lots of effort into customizing our tour, and accommodating stops we wanted to make, which is not something he was obligated to do but did anyways. He was timely in his pick-ups and drop-offs and had plenty of knowledge to share. Packed in so much more than expected including St Kilda’s Beach and the Brighton bath boxes before heading to Phillip Island. Undoubted highlight of the tour was the little penguin parade, but also loved the swamp wallabies. Mark was a fount of knowledge re Melbourne/Aussie life and very easy company for the 10 hours of this trip. It worked very well for the wide age range of our group - 18 to 81.
