The accommodation, which was a dorm, was surprisingly clean and comfortable compared to the backpacker hostels in Melbourne! - Sameer K1 contributionI had a great tour with Walter who was our driver and guide. Two days is a perfect amount of time to experience all the sights along the Great Ocean Road. Walter is knowledgeable and shared a lot of information about the spots.
The itinerary was great as we were able to skip crowds and rush at most places - often the spots get crowded because of day trippers.
It can get a bit tiring as the spots involve a lot of walking.
The overnight stay at Apollo Bay YHA was great as well.
Even as a solo traveller, I didn’t feel left out. Everyone with me was great to talk to and interact with.

We were lucky enough to get an authentic experience of this stunning region. Every one of our group was put head and shoulders first by our tour guide, who was clear with everything expected of us. The group was easily sociable, and a cracking lot to get to know. This was an absolutely wonderful tour made so by our guide/driver Craig.
He was so incredibly knowledgeable not just on the animals, birds, plant-life and culture of the people of the area, new and old. Not only did we see the promised sights, but with efficiency and getting up a bit earlier, he took to us to many other wonderful sights as well, that improved the already great experience. Being extremely well travelled and having led tours in many parts of Australia, he was able to to give us wide perspective on how what we were seeing could be both unique and similar to other places in the world. He had an incredible sense of humour which put a smile on many of our faces. It was wonderful seeing the natural beauty of this part of the world.
Our only reservation in not giving the tour 5 stars was because despite the fact that our tour was only half of the maximum number of people that the bus could take, the seats were cramped, without much leg room and there were no bins overhead to put small carry on bags into.Written 4 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They also offer one and two day trips along the Great Ocean Road which are probably very good, but we felt the one that we did enabled us to see things without being rushed.
Walter, our driver and guide, was excellent. He knows the area well and was able to show us many of its secrets. Highlights were the Twelve Apostles, the Otway National Park Treetop walk, the beautiful beaches and a visit to a chocolaterie and a lighthouse .
The accommodation was simple but comfortable and at the second night hostel there were very good value pizzas available if you didn’t fancy going out to eat.
Walter’s timing was spot-on (an early start every morning meant we arrived at each beauty spot before they were crowded) and as a result there were plenty of opportunities to admire stunning views from look outs in addition to the highlights mentioned above. Very welcome were the hot drinks, cakes and fruit that water served each morning, all included. There were also options for a helicopter flight and a zip line experience in the forest.

I can only imagine how beautiful this place would be in the summer time. At least with the 2 day tour, we had the luxury of waiting for gaps in the weather rather than getting soaked to the bone at each location. It was torrential. - RodS856114 contributionsMy wife and I did this small group tour in Jan 23. The trip exceeded our expectations in every respect. Our guide, Pierre, was first class and went out of his way to ensure everybody had the best time. The accommodation was excellent, meals were great and the scenery was magnificent. It was very relaxing to sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery which seemed to get better and better. Finishing the tour with the Grampians was also wonderful and very relaxing. Pierre was an absolute gentleman and his knowledge of the area and its history was exceptional. Highly recommend this tour. - SueJohannesburg, South Africa8 contributionsWe were very happy with the services of great Ocean Road Explorer. I knew they would be good on the great Ocean Road, given that would seem to be their main market, but they still gave us an excellent tour to Phillip island as well.
They were also quite flexible when we contacted them, as we wanted a ‘day off’ to explore Melbourne, so we did the tour to phillip island on the Monday, explored Melbourne by ourselves on Tuesday, and then went on the 2 day portion of the tour to the great Ocean Road on Wednesday and Thursday, which all worked out well.
