Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We got a guided tour to get familiar with the museum layout and exhibits. The guide made a point of showing us a few "don't miss" items but also did a good job of reminding us that we were walking by/through some things that we would probably enjoy.

The interesting items we DID see were fascinating. The integration of Maori background and culture into the modern world is on display throughout the museum. The Kiwis are so matter-of-fact about it and proud of all of their history that you can't help but appreciate

This is the most magical place- a wonderful haven for plants and wildlife. I went to university in Wellington in the 1980s, now live in the UK and had come to rediscover the city. Several friends had recommended Zealandia as a place to visit and I was not disappointed. I spent three hours revelling in the sights along the tracks- all the fabulous flora and animals. The guides along the way were so helpful and really contributed to the experience. I finished the trip in the cafe with an excellent salad and coffee. Special shout outs to Elizabeth the guide and Paul the shuttle driver, who whetted our appetite for Zealandia on the journey there with fascinating facts. It was an unforgettable experience.

This guy s a must do on Wellington would suggest you buy tickets online as two cruise ships were in that day so was a little delay to get through nothing major we brought a one way ticket as we love walking back through the gardens, there is a lovely cafe at the top, and a good little museum about the cable car if you would like to purchase the return ticket

One can do a hiking trek to the top or simply drive and park at the summit area. Lovely 360 degree views from the top, even when the weather is not cooperating.

A fantastic gardens. Loads of thought for children has gone into the design. The fairy path is very enchanting for children. & the summer magic trail for kids was far better than we expected with really helpful volunteers showing us how the puppet mechanisms worked. The toilets are always clean. Kākā can be found enjoying the exotic trees and playing in the one of the few original remnants of forest in the city.

The Interislander is a great way to travel between the North and South Islands. These are huge boats and you can even bring your own car. It’s about a three hour trip between Wellington and Picton. I tend to get a bit seasick, but not if I’m able to stand outside and enjoy the gorgeous views. I’ve seen plenty of seabirds, including an albatross, and dolphins following along side. I was in NZ in 2023 but didn’t take the Interislander this trip. I have a few times in past visits.

The only thing I can add to the outstanding review below is hiring a croc bike is a great fun way to explore the bay. Kids love it. Their advertised pricing is for winter only

Better than expected. Great talks at various times about most animals. We went in the morning and managed to see most animals out and about. It is really well laid out with clean well kept large enclosures and plenty to experience. The giraffes in particular were very up close.
Had a really nice day there

We walked to see the church and glad we did. It is unique in design. It was frustrating that they didn’t ask men to remove their hats like most churches do.
The grounds weren’t much to see

A museum that covers the nautical use of the harbour, old items of interest as well as Sci Fi.
A very interesting mix that was very interesting and good for kids from about 10 upwards.
Easy to find near the main wharf and 10 min walk from the CBD.

We thoroughly enjoyed our drive to this remote lighthouse. The scenery is beautiful and the drive itself is part of the adventure. The fur seals are an added delight, lying in the sun so close to the road. The climb up the steps to the lighthouse at the top of the hill is hard going but worth it for the view. A fantastic way to spend a couple of hours.

Really nice walk through the valley and the rock formations are really beautiful. Be aware that way there is just up, and walk through the “river” basin could be chalenging for someone. Lookout is really steep hill so be prepared for little hiking.

Very fun activity for a Sunday morning in Wellington. Big selection of fruits and vegetables but also many food trucks with lots of great options for breakfast/lunch. There was a Chilean stand that had delicious vegan and non-vegan empanadas. There was also a great coffee food truck too (unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of it). Staff at both were very friendly.
