Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went here to track down my Great Grandfather and a few other blasts from the past. The office was most helpful, and provided a map with directions to find the areas I was seeking.

Also was able to find new information, as one of the graves I sought was a "double decker" with my ancestor downstairs and a more recently bereaved relative interred above.

If you have any history here, then worth spending an hour or two.

Some beautiful cottages and fantastic to see many of them being restored however there are plenty of areas in Wellington which have gorgeous cottages. I love the narrow streets and how many are not through streets to the cars but walkers can get through :-)

Great history to show the kids how houses were once built!

If my keen eyed wife had not seen the sign we would never have know of this place.
It is a nod to the stream that once flowed here with the sounds of a stream being played as you walk through the tunnel.
Water now runs in pipes away from the area

Mount Victoria Heritage Trail starts (if you want) at the Embassy Theatre on Marjoribanks Street by the sign Modern Shoe and Bag Repair, Dry Cleaning, Key Cuitting. At this sign there is a display about the Heritage Trail, what its intent is, and what to visit. Here the scene is also set for you to outline your journey around the Wellington Suburb of Mount Victoria, in which you can take in historical sites, ranging from Churches, Houses, Statues, Tunnels (2) and olive trees. The Olive Trees once won an international award, for there oil, but now are mainly enjoyed by the birds, and are a reflection of the time that there was a strong Mediterranean influence in the suburb.
To me, if you are a purist you could stick to the Trail as outlined, or you could include other things, such as having a beer in The Welsh Dragon Bar, at 10 Cambridge Terrace, which was once a public toilet. If fact you could mix the trail up a bit and have a pub tour at the same time, by going to the Cambridge Hotel, and then Boneface Tavern on Pirie Street, or the Black Sparrow, for a cocktail. There are also things not mentioned, that are also worth a visit, such as the Wellington Fire Station (perhaps not quite Mt Vic).
I started from St Gerard's Church and Monastery and ended up at the Basin Reserve, but you could do it the other way, especially on a hot day, and venture to Oriental Parade and take a swim, or you could finish at the Embassy and go to a movie. The Trail enables various ways to pursue what is on offer, and to me this is what makes it enjoyable. Suit yourself.
