Our cruise ship docked on a particularly cold, windy (of course!) and wet Saturday morning in Wellington. Walking along Lambton Quay, in a virtually deserted CBD, we espied this haven of tranquility and peace. The fit out for such a small space is wondrous, attesting to the skills of NZ's craftsmen in the rich textured wood, the glass cabinets displaying row upon row of artisanal chocolate delights, beautifully presented, even in the boxed offerings. The female servers were friendly, so polite and super-efficient. Our coffee had us in raptures after the rubbish we endured in Hawaii and - big bonus - they offered a free chocolate of our choice from the many displayed below the cash register. Although we could have had various wraps and muffins, we opted to share a lemon slice and were almost in ecstacy, so good was it! The total cost for two coffees and that melt-in-the-mouth goody? NZ$14.50. Plus another NZ $6.00 for a block of their mint chocolate - perfect as souvenirs provided they survive our covetous need for more.
