We came by for the sea monsters exhibit. The newly refurbished atrium was large and very nice. It had waiting areas as well as the ticketing area, a cafe and the souvenir store. We purchased a ticket to the special exhibition there.
The ticket to the exhibit also included entry into the museum. The sea monster exhibit was ok. There were quite a few nice fossils and some interesting things to do but it was a lot shorter than I expected.
With plenty of time to spare we decided to walk around the museum too. Some of the areas were a lot newer and it was quite interesting watching the new interactive displays. There were also some of the older ones like the volcano exhibit. There is also a place for children at weird and wonderful. I particularly enjoyed the Imaginarium since it was quite different. The natural world display was also nice with the dinosaur and moa bones.
There were a few exhibits that were smaller but also interesting. We didn't walk through it all but did enjoy what we saw. They also have an underground paid carpark that goes right into the atrium of the museum. It was useful in the rain and if there are no free parking spots in the domain.
Quite a nice place to wander about to see the history of New Zealand. Take a day or two to see whats in there.

This is a good workout to walk to the top. We went with our grandchildren in pushchairs. It was steep but do able. Almost harder going back down as the pushchairs tended to run away with you. But worth doing as it is an impressive crater that you can walk the entire way around, either on the footpath or on the raised boardwalk. There are some stairs to navigate if you go all the way around rather than just following the footpath by the roadside.

This is a great day out in Auckland especially for family/friend groups.
I would recommend buying your ferry tickets online to avoid the hassle of having to buy them prior to boarding or avoiding missing out (especially peak times like school holidays, weekends, summer) on the ferry time you want, although there are several times per day.
Excellent views at the top. Walk straight to the summit or do other walks around the volcano.
Summit walk is 1 hour to the top, we took less time coming back down.
Take food and water (no shops), only toilets available. Take a jacket or be prepared for the weather/season you go in.
Cell phone reception available. I am with Vodafone and it worked fine.
Cafe available on the ferry if needed.

We really enjoyed our time on Waiheke Island. Beautiful beaches, easy to get around on the local buses.

What a beautiful place to visit. The birdsong that greets you as you arrive is truly breathtaking. Our guide, Rachel, was so knowledgeable and informative. All the volunteers do an amazing job.

What a fantastic zoo! We have visited a lot of zoos over the years and in a variety of countries and I have to say that Auckland zoo is up there with the best. We spent four hours at the zoo and had a great time. The animal enclosures are large and often don’t have obvious fences which mean you get unobstructed views of the animals. There is lovely planting throughout the grounds and plenty of seating both in the shade and out of it meaning that it is easy to stop and have a picnic. We struck the zoo on a quiet day which certainly helped so we had prime viewing spots and got to enjoy the animals in relative peace. If we lived in Auckland I would definitely become a member of the zoo and visit it on a regular basis!

This hill is a must for First timers in Auckland. Being one of the highest point, this lookout offers 360 degree views of entire Auckland.

There are plenty of parking on the hill. The one nearest the peak is about 10 minutes walk.

The hill has beautiful park and trees all over. You can have a stroll, bring a picnic mat and sit under tree and enjoy a book or just merely relax and feel the nature. You can bring a bike or scooter as well.

Have a drinking bottle handy so you can relenosh your water on nearby drinking fountains too.

This is such a great park just on the outskirts of the city. There is plenty of grassy areas to walk and run around in. There is also a kids playground by the observatory. You have to walk up to the summit but there is parking close to it.
There are also a lot of other things to see around the park such as the rotunda or the myriad of trees lining the paths. There is also a cafe if you were getting pecking or want an indoor rest. There isn't a way to drive from the main entrance on Greenlane West to the playground area so you'd have to get out of the park and get in the other entrance.
It is a nice place to spend a few hours or so just being outside.

An absolutely unmissable museum. There is so much to see, and the special America's Cup yacht is fab. Make sure you sail out into the harbour on the beautiful Ted Ashby, we did and I got to help hoisting the rigging, wonderful trip. The story of the Polynesian settlers is brilliantly told and the boats and other artefacts on display are fascinating. We also enjoyed the story of what it was like to sail to NZ from Europe in years gone by - horrendous! Well worth a visit.....we visited Dec 2019.

It was many years since I had been through this area and I found the memorial to our war dead very moving.

Visited this establishment twice. It occupies a premium location overlooking the Hauraki Gulf. The staff are very helpful and professional in looking after one's requirements. Our food was fresh and delicious and they make a very good coffee. We avoided sitting inside as the noise of patrons conversations were rather loud. Outside was ideal to get away from the din plus you got an uninterrupted sea view. Highly recommended.

It is one of the lighthouses in NZ where you can go inside and to the top of the lighthouse. The views are totally worth it. The road to the lighthouse is not good and full of bumps and stones. Drive carefully. Ample parking though. From parking, it is just 10 minutes walk to the lighthouse and you also get a chance to go to the signal platform. Pack your lunch or snacks and have fun. The gate to the lighthouse close at 5 PM.
