It is a wonderful place to visit to see many rare and endangered New Zealand birds, as well as to be able to walk through rainforest, enjoy the shoreline and generally spend a peaceful day in nature.
We live on the doorstep of a forest park in the Waikato but even with all the bird life we are exposed to Tiritiri Matangi was just superb!

Always a joy to visit, especially around Christmas time with the wonderful lighting display, all the great entertainment and the wonderful park, great to visit with or without the lighting display.
Amazing light collections throughout the park and plenty of opportunities for great photographs; overall, a great opportunity to explore the area.

Well worth the climb to the top for the amazing views otherwise the base track is a beautiful 40 minute walk through amazing nature and wildlife.
... of people jogging and walking enjoying this lovely place.If you start your walk at the caravan park and walk clock wise you'll finnish up at the surf club and just across the road there's coffee shop to enjoy.

The DOC car park was well situated and it was most enjoyable meeting other people and sharing experiences.
But bring your water bottle and a hat to this walk, this is nature pure.

Thank goodness we live in an area with gems like Tawharanui Regional Park on our doorstep it's the perfect place to relax as a family and get some exercise if that's what takes your fancy.
We camped in the DOC park there in a freedom camping rated motorhome--felt like parking in a farmer's field with dunes on our doorstep and glorious sandy beaches and rock formations just beyond.

the access walk itself is enjoyable and recommended, although for those less agile we noted a cliff top level access path of shorter length coming from a car park just to the south of the colony.

I would recommend to combine it with the PiriPiri Caves and the Nature bridge and the bush walk and you have a amazing day of free fun.
From the car park lay by, there is a 5 minute walk downhill to a viewing platform and the sight of the Falls is amazing - so much bigger than we expected.

It’s a great little walk through nature with incredible vegetation, rushing water, waterfalls, and caves.
It is just near the start of the Aranui cave tour, near Car Park B. This is one of the prettiest walks I've done.

The car park was full when we got to the falls and the bush walk was easy to the top of the falls and although going down was easy, coming up was more testing, but you can take your time and admire the scenery.

Great place to visit - check out Tane Mahuta - huge kauri tree, Te Matua Ngahere - the fattest kauri tree and the 4 sisters kauri trees and then have walk in Trounson Kauri Park.
Such a special place, it was wonderful to see the Kauri trees and immerse ourselves in nature in this way.
