Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a great time exploring Akaroa aswell as many other locations around Banks Peninsula. Such a rich history here.
One of the highlights was visiting the museum at Okains Bay. This is a lifetimes work of of one man and continued by a dedicated group of volunteers.
It offers such a huge range of taonga Māori and early Pakeheā items that you can interact with. This small private museum is much more enjoyable to visit than the sterile atmosphere of TePapa.
The Giants House was also well worth the Visit.

This is an excellent family treat, taking your photo with everything from dinosaurs to tackling Jonah Lomu, the famous All Black.

    Very friendly staff.

Have a good look at the photos on the wall to get an idea as top how to capture the best photos.

The sculptures and garden were fascinating, and encouraged us to think outside the box. It was a true highlight of our trip

Absolutely stunning glass, spent a while looking around the shop. Staff were very lovely, kept telling us to touch the different sorts of glass - which was nice since we were terrified of breaking anything! Only disappointing thing was the price to get into the garden. $10 is way too much for the size of it. Also, the pond could do with a good clean as it was bright green.

    What an incredible experience !

If you are interested in Maori culture, history, and art this is one of the must-do experiences in the South Island. You can only do it in Timaru.

Our guide, Sue was great as she took time to explain the displays in the Te Ana Rock Art Centre and answer everyone's questions. What was equally impressive was her ability to put everything into context both in the past when the rock art was being created and also for current members of Ngai Tahu.

My wife loved that Sue was from one of the local runanga and how authentic the experience felt.

After the Rock Art Centre, we went out to a significant rock art site which is on private farm land. The rock art was stunning and provoked a lot of discussion between Sue and the visitors including us. The surrounding landscape which is being restored with native plants was equally beautiful. It was a humbling experience to experience such a beautiful and complex art work out in the New Zealand countryside.

If you have time, put this trip in your itinerary you won't regret it.

Hadn't been to these markets for years & years so wasn't sure what to expect. They were great - not too packed close together, and a lot of different type of stalls. It's nice & close to the beach too, so it makes for a nice morning to browse the market, walk along the beach, & finish off with morning tea at one of the cafes.

Such a great place to visit. There is something for everyone. The Lolly shop is fantastic. So much to choose from from. Fun places to take photos. The shop is great to look through. Purchased gifts. Outside the gardens are amazing. Things to keep kids occupied and lots to look at.

Amazing to be in a museum where you can get up close and personal with so many of the exhibits. Make sure to open the lavatory door downstairs!
The renovations going on will be worth the short term disruption and the workmen were lovely

Interesting Maori art and making of it in depth. Experience the Maori arts and crafts which is surrounded by beautiful traditional sculptures and crafted wooden buildings.

Auckland is currently under lockdown, so, Just looking at their parking rates again.

Things have improved for Members parking... at least we wont be charged for the initial 2 hours if we stay 5 minutes over... but now members are charged higher rates ($7 / half hour) while non members pay just $3 per half hour... seems they still need to look at how they treat loyal customers.

Pretty standard Westfield mall, but nice and bright and sunny inside. Not huge, but enough shops to find most things you need.

Fantastic gallery - has something for every taste, from traditional to abstract. Love that not just the art on the walls - as has large pull out racks so so much more than when you first walk in.
