Langley Park is a large central reserve that acts as a buffer between the Perth CBD and the Swan River, similar to New York City's better known Central Park. Langley Park is around 1 km long by 100 metres wide. Langley Park was reclaimed from the Swan River in the inter-war era. Langley Park was used by pioneering aviators a landing strip in the 1920s. It has had many community uses, including providing playing fields. Among other events, such as polo, Langley Park traditionally hosts the Perth City Skyworks fireworks on Australia Day
