    Centrally located, very convenient....
    Centrally located with easy access to lots of hotels, dining & retail nearby. There is a mid sized COLES supermarket nearby. The only stop for the Airport Skybus - great that the alighting & drop off points are sheltered inside the station.

    XPT Melbourne to Sydney
    The XPT is a very old train and brand new trains are ready to be rolled out, sitting in train yards in Sydney. Nevertheless, the first class seat train trip was quite comfortable. It is a smooth enough train. The food was not classy but adequate. As the train travelled through the Melbourne train yards, it groaned and squeaked which was rather annoying but once on its own free track, not so bad.
    The train was predictably late to arrive in Sydney and that was the really annoying part. I knew it would be late from when I booked, but we were never told.
    One mistake we made was choosing seats using a seating plan as the train travelled from Sydney to Melbourne. You have to reverse the train carriage map when travelling in the opposite direction. Don't choose seats near the air con inlet at the door end of the carriage as it is noisy. The best seats are in the middle of the carriage.
    Flying is cheaper and faster, but the train is a good experience and so much less stressful.

    It’s okay I guess.
    I have lived in Melbourne for a little over three months and get the train from Laverton into the city most days. The service is okay. There have been delays but it mostly runs on time. The trains are generally clean and graffiti free. The vast majority of passengers do the right thing but you can’t help the grubs.

    Airport link is worth waiting for
    The Melbourne Airport Rail project is part of Victoria's Big Build, a series of major infrastructure structure projects that will transform Melbourne's transport system. The Airport Rail project will be worth waiting for; it will link up with other transport links to regional cities such as Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Traralgon. The people of Victoria have been waiting a long time for the Melbourne Airport Rail; this major project is expected to be completed, on time, by 2029. The existing Tullamarine Freeway will provide an alternative means of getting to the Airport.
