Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing building and lots of history I’d never learnt growing up in NSW. It’s a stunning old building of great historical significance and “Matt with a beard” brought it all to life. An excellent tour with lots of information. Matt was pleasant and informative with a wonderful grasp of the history and the significance of this building and Gabriel his 2IC has a friendly helpful attitude which is welcoming. The art work is fascinating. We loved our tour and would highly recommend it to others. Definitely book in advance so you aren’t disappointed as it is very popular.

The Old Treasury Building was built in 1869 to store the copious amounts of gold flowing from the Victorian goldfields. The Great Australian Gold Rush dated from 1851. Apart from the gold, it was also an office for the Victorian Treasury. These days, visitors can inspect the vaults; there are also a number of exhibitions, including the changing role of women and the evolution of work. Entry is free.

A historical building with designated construction in CBD. Lots of tourists stop by, taking the photos before heading to the next destination. Enjoy.

The historic St Francis Church is the oldest Catholic Church in Melbourne. It was built in 1841; it is one of the few structures in Melbourne pre-dating the Great Australian Gold Rush of 1851. Although the exterior looks plain, the interior, with its timber ceiling and colorful stained-glass windows, is quite beautiful. The church is named for St Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Order. Mass is said every day of the week.

The cathedral-esque ANZ Bank boats gilded ceilings. This sandstone monument to commerce is truly stunning. The ANZ Bank Museum is located in Collins St. The ANZ Bank has been thriving since the days of the Great Australian Gold Rush.

This old church, dating back 150 years is a quiet place to sit at lunchtime. The rough bluestone contrasts with the green vegetation. You could almost pass by without noticing it among the tall buildings nearby.

Government House is the residence and office of the Governor of Victoria. A Vice Regal office bearer is the representative of the Head of State. Government House is stately; most Victorians will never see inside.

Curtin House is a good hang-out for city workers. It's a bit shabby, but the restaurant is nice. The rooftop bar is renowned as a place for a convivial drink. Curtin House is named for John Curtin, said to be Australia's greatest ever Prime Minister. Curtin House dates from the 1930s, when Australia was taking it easy "between the wars."

Besides the renovations going on you can still go in and check this cute place out...
sadly the outside has bits sprayed all over it because history should be left alone but guess that’s life.
The chapel to enter 💒 just go up to the bar and someone will let you in,
grab a drink while your there.
The history is great and when you see old pics you can imagine how it was, spend around 30 mins to go though.

This is an incredibly beautiful building with exceptional detail. The Melbourne Safe Deposit Building was designed by William Pitt for the Stock Exchange of Melbourne Co. Ltd. and occupied by the Melbourne Safe Deposits Co. Ltd.

William Pitt (1855-1918), architect and politician, was born on 4 June 1855 in Melbourne. The most prolific years of Pitt's architectural practice coincided with the boom period in Melbourne and his work, more than anyone else's, reflected the confident exuberance of boom-style architecture.

The Safe Deposit Building is historically significant as the first safe deposit operation in Australia and the basement vaults are largely intact. At the time of construction the Safe Deposit Building was considered the strongest and most secure building in Australia. It is the elegant detail of this building which makes it special; with every level treated separately.

If you love old buildings, this is a must see on your list. It really does remind me of the tin money boxes of my youth.

The Old Quad and Law School is an events space and museum on the University of Melbourne's Parkville Campus. It was constructed in 1856, making it one of the University's original buildings. The site is an impressive example of the stonemasons' art. The Old Quad had a key role in Australia's industrial history. In April 1856, workers walked off the job and marched into the City demanding an 8 Hour Day, which they eventually achieved. The Old Quad has a commemorative plaque attesting to this fact.
