He made the effort to go extra miles making sure that everyone enjoys and are comfortable. He has great jokes that helps to keep the long rides fun! I’ve been to many local tours around the world and Craig is the best guide I’ve met so far. - JUINI22 contributionsIt’s great that we visited the Great Ocean Road the whole way from Torquay to Warrnambool. All of the amazing landmarks along the coast, awesome beaches, stunning scenery at the lookout, and wonderful birds’ singing and enormous natural species in the rainforest have been all carved in our memory. Walter, our tour guy, did a wonderful job of leading us spying all the gorgeous views, plants and animals all the way. We even saw koalas and wallabies walking along the road. I would definitely not recommend doing any less than this as the 2 day tour missed out on a great hike in the grampians. Our tour guide Peter was great with loads of knowledge and a very chilled vibe so that it didn’t feel like we were on a school trip. Some bits of the tour are a bit rushed but that’s to be expected on such a quick turn around. The tour was varied and wonderful scenery and great placed to eat. The Pace was relaxed, and our tour guide Jason was exceptional in making everyone relaxed and making sure everyone got to see what they wanted to see. Our age ranged varied from 27yrs to 70 but everyone got on and having a young energetic guide with lots of experience made a trip memorable. - AustinT11 contributionsWife and I, 70+ years old, are frequent international travelers and often hire private tour guides. Some work well, some less so. Always looking to research best options. My advice in visiting Great Ocean Rd from Melbourne: your search is over…call/write James. You can see from other reviews all his attributes. What I can add is that our experiences was that even when he can’t give the tour himself he chooses another good guide… and then he, James , worries throughout the tour that all is good even when he’s supposed to be on vacation. In our case, Max filled in for James and was a courteous, attentive, informative, interesting, pleasant driver and guide for our 2-day tour. Together, James and Max teamed up to take care of a last minute hitch that was weather-related… seamlessly. - susan m28 contributionsThe weather was a bit soul destroying, but our guide James kept us in high spirits. I can only imagine how beautiful this place would be in the summer time. At least with the 2 day tour, we had the luxury of waiting for gaps in the weather rather than getting soaked to the bone at each location. It was torrential. Our tour guide Tara was great, she was always in a positive mood and explained a lot about the area from the very beginning of this tour! I really liked to listen to all of her interesting stories from the Great Ocean Road! We stopped at a lot of places, so many things to see! Lots of great look-outs, high and honey-coloured cliffs, koalas hanging in a tree and very cool kangaroos at Halls Gap! Proclaimed to be the ‘best part of their holiday in Australia’. I will definitely choose this company again in the future. I have done the great ocean road many times so I don’t really want to take people down there every time friends visit me from abroad. So great to have a company on hand to use. - SueJohannesburg, South Africa9 contributionsWe were very happy with the services of great Ocean Road Explorer. I knew they would be good on the great Ocean Road, given that would seem to be their main market, but they still gave us an excellent tour to Phillip island as well.
They were also quite flexible when we contacted them, as we wanted a ‘day off’ to explore Melbourne, so we did the tour to phillip island on the Monday, explored Melbourne by ourselves on Tuesday, and then went on the 2 day portion of the tour to the great Ocean Road on Wednesday and Thursday, which all worked out well.

This is a mammoth tour, be warned, there is a fair bit of driving, especially on day 2 as the Great Ocean Road leg is very long. You can counteract this by doing the same tour over 3 days which might cut your driving down. But this would have pushed up the price so we opted for the shorter 2 day option.
There were so many great parts to this trip I wouldn’t know where to begin. Our guide James was great. He was so well organised wherever we went, as especially on Philip island, we required ticket entry to everywhere, but he had already pre-booked everything so we skipped the queue wherever we went. He advised us a few weeks before booking to upgrade our Penguin parade ticket, which he did for us. Such a good move, as it gained us entry into a limited entry area. Really great!
And the Great Ocean Road is just mind blowing , but perhaps best done by staying overnight along the road.
