Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really excellent tour at the Hobart Penitentiary. Our tour guide Sam was fantastic - informative and knowledgeable. The tour included a 22 minute video some of the best video interpretation we have seen. The exhibition space is small but very high quality. Free for National Trust members (including interstate members). Highly recommended!

This is a 4* location with a 5* experience. There is not a lot physically left of the factory which is a bit disappointing but the work that has been down to create an experience that tells the story is amazing. I listened to the audio guide all the way through … twice! The whole site highlights the lesser known history of women (including some acknowledgement of indigenous women) and is a real feminist celebration. Awesome staff and a pretty cool gift shop

Am a National Trust member and decided to visit while in Hobart. Very impressed by the tour ( very knowledgeable and approachable guide) well worth the entry cost. And the property is just fantastic, best NT property I’ve visited. Well preserved and presented with original furniture and gardens. And not roped off - you can get right up close to everything.

A very welcoming and interesting collection of Maritime artefacts ranging from whaling to ferries to the Royal Australian Navy.

The collection is set out over two flors and accessible by lift or stairs. There is so much history and interesting displays about Tasmania's nautical past.

I particularly liked the original Commanding Officers cabin from the HMAS Derwent. The ship has been scuttled but the CO wanted the cabin saved. So cool to see everything exactly as it was back in the day.

There is a nice gift shop and a great book collection for sale.

    Definitely worth a visit

This was a fascinating insight into the lives of the early settlers, but more importantly, the lives of the convicts in households during the early 1800's. Felicity was our guide and she was very passionate about the history of early Hobart and gave a very Indepth commentary on what life was for everyone concerned in Hobart at the time. The house we toured has been wonderfully retained in original form and it was a great way to spend a couple of hours learning about our history as a nation.

Wonderful spot to pop into either during the week or especially on a Sunday when the doors to the hall are open for an exhibition.

Originally built by Lady Jane Franklin in 1842 to bring some culture and civility to the area. The name Acanthe stands for 'blooming valley' and she had it erected as a classic temple form.

You can drive there as there is parking spots (out the front, next to the public toilets or anywhere along the street) or you can catch a bus as there is a bus stop at the entrance. The public toilets have been built only recently so are quite new and clean. There are a couple of seating benches on the land around the hall and the walking track leads all the way to the top of Lenah Valley road which is good for exercise and walking your dog. The public space around the hall also makes a nice little spot to have a picnic.

The hall itself is rather small but makes up for it with charm and ambience.

A great experience, thanks Rob. Having worked in aviation and as a navy air controller I thoroughly enjoyed being up front in a realistic simulator. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone wanting flight simulator experience or just curious about what it takes to fly a 737.

The lighthouse guide was a delight, friendly and informative. We learned a lot from her. It was a windy day and she was mindful of her legal obligations about whether to let us out on the balcony.

This was my first ever experience in an escape room. The host was very welcoming and informative. She explained everything in very simple terms. The escape room experience was so good. We had so much fun, there were 4 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed it and would definately recommend anyone to experience it.

cannot recommend this tour enough. The views are spectacular. We were extremely lucky in that the weather was exceptionally calm and we saw sites that you cannot always see, that said even if we did not get to view these the sights would still be amazing. The tour guides have extensive knowledge about the sites and the wildlife you get to view on the tour. Very good value for money.

As a family, we have done many boat cruises in many countries and across different sceneries and this ranks as most likely the best we have ever experienced. Super comfortable boats operating in potentially rough seas with highly professional crews. To see common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, albatross, Australian fur seals, long-nosed fur seals and a humpback whale exceeded our expectations. And then there are the caves, blow holes and cruise-through rock formations. We had extra time out there beyond the 3 hours because our crew expertly interacted with the dolphins, leaping all around us and surfing our bow waves - exhilarating! Our day was sunny but cold (even in December) but the seas were mercifully calm so that we visit a cave on the Southern Ocean side. Totally awesome!

We just completed the Famous Five tour and it was everything and more than we thought it would be. Our guide Brendan did an excellent job herding the cats to stay on schedule while accommodating us for plenty of stops and extra site seeing activities. It is a great way to see Tasmania and this tour really hits the highlights while being a good value with the places you get to go and experience. The parks were amazing and your choice of a short track or a long trek was ideal for the different days and everyone’s different abilities. I highly recommend this tour group and tour. One word of caution - if you are prone to car sickness bring your medicine, the roads are winding and bouncy.
