I would recommend driving yourselves up if you are able to. We stopped in a couple of places to take in the changing views and once at the top it was just stunning.
The clouds initially meant we couldn’t see much and it was really cold and windy up there.
Then the clouds cleared and we were able to see all the at back to Hobart.

While it goes by some wonderful scenery (the fabulous and famous MONA, Coenelian Bay, the city), parts of it are through less enchanting industrial and suburban settings. Even so, if you want to cycle, but aren't up to hilly Hobart, consider the largely flat Cycleway especially to get to MONA.
