Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very informative and great value for money. The staff are passionate and keen to share their knowledge and there is a huge wealth of information throughout the displays. If you are interested in exploration from a bygone era this attraction is a must visit.Written 12 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PetalBrisbane, Australia1,476 contributionsA very welcoming and interesting collection of Maritime artefacts ranging from whaling to ferries to the Royal Australian Navy.
The collection is set out over two flors and accessible by lift or stairs. There is so much history and interesting displays about Tasmania's nautical past.
I particularly liked the original Commanding Officers cabin from the HMAS Derwent. The ship has been scuttled but the CO wanted the cabin saved. So cool to see everything exactly as it was back in the day.
There is a nice gift shop and a great book collection for sale.

Highly recommend going on a day when the steam train is running. It's been a long time since passenger trains have run in Tasmania so it's a novelty to ride on one.Written 2 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Amazing manatee10 contributionsIt is unusual to see a historic house with such strong art and craft movement theme. Having the house preserved as how the family left it provided a sense of intimacy and integrity. The story behind the family was a history chapter of its own. Friendly staff and insightful information card for a self-guided tour. Garden was a delight.Written 15 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
