If you're visiting this is a must do activity on a Saturday morning. Markets filled with food, crafts, local produce and other quirky things. If you're after whiskeys, gin or wine there are several stands that'll allow you to try before you buy. It's a great way to see what Hobart has to offer in one spot

One of my favourite things to do in Hobart and gives a true sense of the culture here. Fabulous food, friendly people, live music. Buy the crumpets.

A must visit place while in Hobart. Here you will find variety of Aussie made products from music to arts, drink and food etc. I especially enjoyed the wood carving and the history section of the marketplace where one can learn about the history of Tasmania in a lively fashion.

We were in the mall on a couple of occasions, little activity evident either in the mall or adjoining arcades, it was just devoid of atmosphere. Maybe 10.30am was too early. My wife was successful with a few purchases, I admired the sculptures of Fish out of Water, Maurice the Pig and Thompson the Dog. We were able to sit a while and enjoy the free WIFI.

If you are looking for indigenous art in Hobart, then head to Art Mob. Euan is extremely knowledgeable and has real empathy with the artists. The collection is vast and the quality is simply outstanding. Some great art and matching stories from our traditional owners.
    Thanks for your vote.

One of our drivers on the Red Decker recommended that the arcade was worth a visit to see the Cat and Fiddle Clock. I was enjoying my coffee at Muffin Break when the cat played the fiddle and the cow jumped over the moon. Right on the hour - " hey, diddle, diddle the cat plays his fiddle, the cow jumps over the moon, the little dog laughs". There are various tenancies and a Myer store.

This is a great little store jam packed with great buys. I always walk away with something from here when visiting Hobart. The book selection is amazing.

Such beautiful stones and jewellery! Loved chatting to Mel at the markets. Love my new purchase. It’s great to be able to talk to the artists and get a back ground into the stones and the design process. Favourite stall at the markets. Loved everything so beautiful and special. I will treasure my piece!!

While visiting Hobart we made the almost obligatory visit to the Salamanca Arts Centre. To be honest, we were initially underwhelmed as it seemed to consist of small and unimpressive shops with middling trinkets for sale.

We then came across Gallery Salamanca. This was a high point in our entire Tasmanian holiday. Upon entry, we were met by Marjorie who became our tour guide come personal art adviser. For the proceeding hour or so we were entranced by her enthusiasm for the art on offer ranging from quirky studies, serious and engaging landscapes to highly intricate glassworks.
I was completely enthralled by a series of paintings by local artist, Stuart Clues. The gallery holds five of his recent works, all of which I would happily hang in my house. To our delight, he came into the gallery while we were here and we then had an engaging discussion on his work.

We concluded our visit with the purchase of a glass bowl which will be a centrepiece in our home. I cannot recommend the gallery highly enough and I commend Marjorie for making our visit an afternoon we will savour for many years hence.

The only place in Hobart to get the best contemporary art. We love coming here every other year and buying a new piece. No where else in Hobart like it.

Well positioned shop that offers a wide range of locally made and sourced goods for sale. We were particularly impressed with the beautiful range of paintings and photographs of birds and wilderness and nature settings.

There was also a wide range of other goods for sale with similar themes including jewellery, stationery, books, guides, homewares, soaps, some clothing items and other produce such as teas and olive oils etc.

Prices though, appeared to be geared to the tourist market.

It is difficult parking near the Antiques Warehouse in Warick St., due to the Hobart City Council's stupidity. It is worth the difficulty in finding the entrance about 40 metres up from Elizabeth St. As you walk in the entrance, mentally say "Open Sazamey" ? like Alladin going into his treasure cave. There is whole floors of depending on your personal taste, both trash and Treasure. I found 2 small sterling sliver salt and mustard spoons from a long gone Hobart Silversmith. If you ask Scott what you are looking for, he may take you there, or send you on your own to find it? You may need a compass to find your way back. Trash or Treasure It is all in the eye of the beholder!

This is a groovy Knick knack shop. Some great lamps and even boots that unfortunately didn’t fit my partner.

Worth a look in when walking Macquarie st.

We go to their exhibition openings quite often and they are always interesting. I once went to watch Yillian painting which was an amazing experience. Giles Hugo's photography is astonishingly beautiful and I view his work every time I go in. We meet many people who recommend the art classes there, and it seems a great place to learn more about art.
