Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you have several days in Adelaide, catching the beach tram to Glenelg is a fun, easy day out.
Glenelg is a beachside town with a long, sandy swimming beach, a jetty, a ferris wheel, with bars and casual restaurants clustered around the main square (we liked Beach Burritos).
It really couldn’t have been easier to get the tram here. It runs regularly from the CBD to Glenelg beach and takes about 25 minutes.
We caught it from the stop next to Victoria Square. We didn’t even have to bother looking up a timetable - we only waited about 5 - 7 minutes.
We also didn't need to pre-buy a ticket or travel card - we simply tapped on with our Australian credit card and, unlike Sydney, you only need to tap on (no need to tap off).
We were travelling mid-week so we had a seat the whole way (although it's probably very different on weekends or school hols).
When you see the ferris wheel, you will know you’ve arrived but in any case, the tram stops here and everyone gets off.
It’s worth noting that the trams run until very late. The last tram back to the CBD is 12:30am.

Very nice free tour for tours and locals alike. You’ll see enough to know where you want to eventually stop and visit. Two minute walk from main train station.

My husband and I went on the Ghan to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We travelled in Gold Premium. From start to finish it was a perfect experience. Our accommodation was so well planned and tastefully decorated and we were very comfortable. The lounge area was beautiful and we loved spending time there. Our dining experience was superb and we really appreciated the lovely linen and high quality china and cutlery. The staff on the train took care of our every need without feeling intrusive. The off train experiences - Katherine Gorge with Aboriginal paintings and story telling was superb. The "Town Like Alice" excursion was well planned and greatly added to our knowledge of Ausstralian history . The stargazing experience was an unexpected surprise and we loved it. All in all our expectations were surpassed.

We travelled Gold Class over Christmas from Brisbane to Adelaide. Having travelled on the Indi-Pacific several years ago, we knew what to expect. The food and drinks, both onboard and during the very well organised excursions, are plentiful and of very high standard. The staff are all extremely friendly, fun and helpful. Their great teamwork endeavours to meet every need. The cabins are compact but contain everything needed. Bunks are erected and concealed,as appropriate, by highly efficient staff. This provides a private space if/when required, or guests can choose to mix with others in the lounge bar. Sadly, it is very difficult to sleep due to the surprisingly bumpy/noisy ride over the tracks (not sure who is to blame for this). We will look forward to future JBR travels.

As with most train trips, The Overland allows you to see parts of the country that you wouldn't normally see taking other forms of transport. The changes in the landscape between Adelaide and Melbourne are more than enough to hold your attention, and the windows are large enough to let you see it.

I travelled in Red Premium and believe that it's well worth the extra outlay. The food was excellent (Baked Banana Bread with Banana and Lemon Yoghurt for breakfast, Mushroom and Spinach Rotolo for lunch), the drink selection good, and the train staff provided the typically friendly and efficient service you expect from Journey Beyond Rail.

The buffet car is excellent, and sells a range of food and drink that is more than adequate to satisfy those with larger appetites.

Having said all that, don't board The Overland expecting a trip akin to the Indian Pacific or the Ghan - there are similarities, but it's a different type of travel. Still beats flying.

Thoroughly enjoyed our trip on the Great Southern in December 2024. We were able to plan the trip around visitting my son and family who live in Brisbane. We had three days in Bris. and Journey Beyond were quite obliging with us having this time and arranging our flight accordingly.
My sister and I were very happy with the staff, our twin cabin, all the meals and our off train experiences went without a hitch and were very enjoyable and interesting.
We had been warned by others that this train line was noisy, so we were kind of prepared, but though rougher than the Ghan, was still ok for us. My sister slept in the top bunk without any complaints and I was very comfy in the bottom bed, plus we were so happy to have our own shower and toilet.
This is a train trip folks, not a luxury liner!

We were a small group of 5 that booked a few relaxing days in the Barossa, taking in some wonderful sights. We prebooked a number of different trips with Steve and the team, including pickup from Adelaide airport (which they were spot on with times, and directions inside the airport), drop off to Seppeltsfield and pickup the following day to Eden Valley. For one trip we phoned ahead to be collected and barossa taxi's were on time.

The bus station was a 20 min walk from our hotel near Rundle street. It was where we were to be collected for our wine tour and seems to be the place were many of these tours begins.
For a bus station it was very clean with excellent toilet facilities. Only one vending machine for drinks so if you want a snack pick it up on your walk or have it with you already.
    Area well signed.
Park area outside so kids could run around while waiting.
    Staff friendly.

Trip Advisor only has Adelaide Railway Station Info Centre but I did not go there just the station, as get information from the Visitors Centre!
The station first opened in 1856 and only has suburban trains now.
The Casino occupies the majority of the station building, which is no longer required for railway use. Until 1984, Adelaide station was also the terminus for regional and interstate passenger trains, but there are no longer any regular regional train services in South Australia, and all interstate services are now handled at Adelaide Parklands Terminal.

It would have been much better if the train had of went to Ararat, but it only went to Bacchus Marsh then a bus to Ararat and another bus to Horsham. If by train, it would have got there at 11-47am and the bus leaves at 1-00pm. However, the bus got there by 12-47 an hour late and no time to look around Horsham. The service is cheaper than the Overland though.

Kanga coach's picked us up at Alice Springs airport, and from the very start the driver Wayne was great. He done a great job, explaining everything to us, as we travelled throughout Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Coober Pedy, Port Augusta and then on to Adelaide. But in all that time, Wayne the driver was great. A gentleman and I would like to say thanks buddy đź‘Ť your company should be happy to have you. Mike & sarda. Melbourne gang.

Great communications, professional people, very reliable as arrived on time to collect us and take us to our destinations both times. Cars were good, better presentation on the outside than the inside of the vehicle. Recommend them for their communications and reliability.
