Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Blue Arrow walk starts near the half way mark of the Red Arrow walk (by the lookout over the airport and the top of the Yellow Arrow walk) then makes it’s way up and down and up and down... 😊 to Mount Lumley Hill.

We took the right hand side on the way up then back down the left hand side (when looking from the start). The right hand side is much more interesting, and we thought more challenging, than the other side. It is not as well marked and a couple of times we paused to make sure we were on the right path. But we saw more wildlife and interesting plants on that side so it is worth doing the whole circuit. The left hand path is much clearer to follow.

The lookout at the top of Mount Lumley Hill has an under cover picnic table and a God’s view. When you visit don’t forget to leave a comment in the visitor’s book which can be found in the metal box attached to the pole just before you get to the picnic shelter.

We are a bit out of shape and we were stopping to look at points of interest and it took us the whole 5 hours suggested in the brochure but many younger walkers were passing us and probably would have taken closer to 3 hours.

It would be nice if some of the undergrowth could be cleared to give better views at different points on the walk but it was a very enjoyable bush walk.

Trail goes along the creek for a few kilometers. We were after 2 hours spending half of this time swimming in the pool on the creek. Water was a bit colder but still very refreshing.

The Yellow Arrow is the latest (2017) of the four Arrow bush walks that criss-cross the Mt Whitfield Conservation Park in the Cairns suburbs of Edge Hill and Aeroglen.
The Yellow Arrow is rated a Grade 3 walk and contains many steps, along a clearly marked track. Although the 1.9km track has some short steep sections with proper rock steps, it can be enjoyed by anyone of moderate fitness. It is very popular with young families, teens, joggers, couples and elderly groups.

A short distance from the Kuranda rail line crossing on Aeroglen Drive, the car park is the common start/finish point for the Yellow Arrow. Leaving the park information display shelter to your left, follow the bitumen bike path for 150m and swing left at the signpost and head up through the yellow gates.

Always gradually climbing, the formed gravel track wends it way through pockets of rainforest, damp gullies, ferny glades and past huge buttressed Fig trees.
Information on the many floral and faunal features of the walk are provided through the many pictorial story-boards placed at key sites along the track.

The 'Yellow' finishes at a viewing picnic shelter overlooking the airport and Trinity Bay. To provide some variety and an enjoyable, scenic circuit alternate to returning via the same track, it is common to incorporate the Yellow Arrow walk with parts of the shorter (but steeper) Red Arrow - up the 'Yellow' and down the 'Red', or vice versa.
The longer Blue Arrow is also accessible from the Yellow Arrow trail head.
By all accounts, the Yellow Arrow track is a more gentler walk than the steeper, shorter and busier Red Arrow track, which can be a more demanding experience.

The Yellow Arrow track passes through some beautiful examples of tropical low-level rain-forests and their fascinating ecosystems and can be a memorable experience.

Walkers can choose to pass the viewing shelter, descending 350m to the paved Red Arrow intersection and continue down (left or right track) to the Cairns Botanic Gardens car park on Collins Ave. An easy 10 min walk along the Saltwater Creek bike path completes the walk to the car park.
Allow at least 1.5 hr for either circuit.
Note, there is plenty of shade along the track, good mobile reception, but no bins and no water. Being formed gravel with the liberal use of stone steps and rock pavers, good footwear is recommended for the Yellow Arrow track. Enjoy!
