Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Alli768Brisbane, Australia301 contributionsIt's been there a long time. Fastidiously maintained. If you want to see the best effort in Christmas decorations hot foot it to this two level arcade. But some hand made chocolates have a coffee in one of the two cafes. Upstairs has many antique jewellers, watchmakers and the Room with Roses restaurant. Upstairs you can get the best view of the Christmas decorations .
There is a fascinating history of the Patrick Mayne family whose land investments in the late 1800s funded this arcade as well as the land for the Uni of Queensland and the Herston Medical School. If you go to the lift the history of the arcade in on the wall. A Brisbane Ghost tour has a fascinating story also of the arcade and any other time you might run into a ghost or two upstairs of a previous milliner and maybe Mrs Mary Mayne herself from the 1860s occupation of this area of Queen Street.
Brisbane is lucky to still have this rare arcade. A fascinating selection of stores and heritage architecture. May it last forever.Written 6 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AndyJohn74Sydney, Australia5,031 contributionsJames Street is where those who want to be seen go. There are super cars galore and more Botox and active wear than you can poke a stick at. - OrderintheHouseBrisbane3,531 contributionsA visit to the Lucky Cat Café in Annerley in Brisbane (on the southside) is a novel experience, particularly if you are into cats and have a love of cats.
My oldest son chose a visit here to celebrate his 40th birthday in April 2023. Now this was indeed an unusual choice of venue for such a milestone. However, my son loves cats, he has one of his own which roams his house freely and so his choice of celebration came as no surprise to our family. My wife and I and his younger brother also attended to make his celebration special.
My wife and I had previously been to a Cat Café in Penang Malaysia in 2015 and we enjoyed the experience. It was a bit different to the Lucky Cat Café in Brisbane and I have since found out that the place is now permanently closed which is a pity.
The Lucky Cat Café in Brisbane offers nice coffee and snacks which can be enjoyed in the café area. There is a blackboard at the servery listing the “Meow-Nu” – a cat play on words for ‘menu’ and offering coffees with novel names such as “ Catpuchino”, Cat White and Catte Mochat”
We enjoyed our coffees and drinks and cake whilst waiting for our session in an adjacent large room adorned with cat inspired walls; lots of cat playing props; shelves strategically placed on the walls for the cats to climb on and rest; comfortable couches to sit on and of course quite a number of rescued cats of many varieties roaming freely. There is a limit as to the number of guests who can be in the exhibition room at any one time. Visits are conducted throughout the day "on the hour". The cats can be picked up for a cuddle if one wishes and we also had opportunity to see them being fed. The cats also have no difficulty coming to us rather than us coming to them. The cats are also cheeky with two in particular deciding on the day we were here that a guest’s wheelie walker made a good play thing for them to enjoy.
Our session in this room was around an hour. There was a cost of $14 per person to visit this room which was a fair admission price. There were people there including couples who expressed interest in viewing the cats with the objective of taking one home as a pet. For them, this room represented the ideal means to check out a cat before making a pet commitment. The staff members on hand were friendly and very open to answering any questions people wanted to ask about all things cats.
We did enjoy the experience and we were all happy to be here for my son’s benefit. It was plain for all to see that young children would love a visit here and of course it would attract the genuine cat lover. The place would be a popular venue for children’s birthday parties in particular.
It’s a worthy addition to the variety of interesting and unusual places that Brisbanites (Brisbane residents) can visit for enjoyment and full marks to the management for daring to promote something different.
We concluded our son’s birthday celebration with lunch at the Samford Hotel, around 40 minutes away to the north, to complete a very memorable day.Written 6 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very good marketWritten 19 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Small variety to choose from and unfortunately most things my daughter wanted to paint had no stock left. She did settle on something and enjoyed it so that was great. Be mindful of the food/snack as I believe the chocolate and lollies were out of date as they tastes horrible and have no use by date on the small packaging. Overall lovely experience and great time out. Make sure you book as they get super busy and don’t often have space for walk insWritten 13 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Belinda EBrisbane, Australia471 contributionsThis one is going to fit a niche market but if you love books you'll enjoy your visit. It's smelly and old and musty with wooden ladders and steps dotted around the place so that you can reach the higher shelves. My teenage daughter declared that it was "just like a movie". Many of the books are the ones that you still see on Grandma's bookshelf and they aren't exactly cheap. That said, there's a certain charm for the book lover and some of the rare works are genuinely special.
My daughter and I really enjoyed our visit. We both took home a purchase and we'll definitely be back to have a wander through on our next visit to Brisbane.Written 24 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The crowd is always steady with regulars and new explorers.
They have various fresh fruit and vegetable stalls. They also offer various exotic vegetables and organic, pesticide free products.
There are also fresh food and beverage stalls. My favorite would have to be the Dutch poffertjes and waffle stall. It always satisfies. Always made fresh and toppings of your choice like; fresh strawberries or banana with ice cream or/and cream. Plenty of choices. The waffles are divine.
There is always an exciting new band playing every Saturday.
It is a buzzing little market for locals and there is always a new stall to check out. The area is also surrounded by cafes.Written 27 December 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
