Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Caroline L4 contributionsStarted at the cafe which was incredible. ( next door to exhibition centre and historically linked) Quirky decor, lovely lunches. Table service.
Then next door to the most incredible exhibition. We had a guide who answered our questions and took us to each component of the experience. She was super friendly and helpful. The film was very well made, the exhibition well presented and we learnt so much about the service the flying doctors provide. The shop was extremely well stocked with a huge variety of goods to purchase, all helping to fund their medical work. We had a wonderful experience and recommend a visit.Written 6 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was for our friends benefit we visited here.
There are a range of reptiles on display and Terry the Crocodile out back.
They do bring out some of the lizards etc for a lecture and you can hold them. We didn't hang around for that.
Unfortunately we thought the guys on duty the day we were there were not interested in us or had other things on their minds. At one stage we had the full run of the place, no staff on site.
If you haven't been or haven't been up close to snakes etc you may enjoy the visit.Written 11 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. While basic (as described on the website), it was good value for money.Written 20 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ronelle DNorth Sydney, Australia2 contributionsI have been truly inspired by the beautiful collection & range of Aboriginal artwork in store at TIAA.
I loved hearing the stories behind each piece of work, & was lucky enough to be able to see artworks being created in the studio by some of the artists. It was a really amazing experience, & highlight of my trip to Alice!
I purchased a great piece & love it to bits!!
If you come to Alice Springs defiantly worth a visit.Written 3 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Although it dosnt take up a huge foot print physically there is tonnes of information and literature to read and see with plenty of fossils and drawings to match.
You can spend 5 mins watching the team behind the glass cleaning and discovering too.
A great hour or so spent mooching and reading. In November the place was super quiet with only the 2 of us in for most of our time.
Staff was friendly and helpful and don’t forget the usual tat-shop at the end.

I was warmly welcomed by Margaret and July, enjoying a special tour of the house and a chat over a cup of tea. Thank you so much!Written 25 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Aussie_2012Melbourne, Australia960 contributionsLocated at the Transport museum south of Alice about 5 minutes drive from the gap. There are several carriages kept in reasonable condition showing what life was like onboard. In the museum area there are several rooms dedicated to the construction and history of the route as well as various other pieces of significance.Written 10 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - StuBrisbane Region, Australia3 contributionsSome of the best aboriginal art in Australia. Jila Arts has two galleries in the Todd mall and another in a studio in another location. We found there was better art here than uluru and is on par with the gallery of central Australia (Alice springs). Jila arts go above and beyond to support all artists which gives you great piece of mind. We found the whole team to be upfront, honest and down to earth. Will definitely be ordering more art from Jila in the future. Thanks Corny, Mandy, Sam and Paul. You guys made our trip to Alice something to remember.Written 25 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ColinAndChristinaAuckland Central, New Zealand73 contributionsThis art gallery is a short distance away from the retail centre of Alice Springs where there are several galleries within walking distance of each other selling indigenous artwork. However, it is definitely worthwhile making the short drive to visit Mbantua Gallery, whether anticipating buying a painting or just to wander through looking at the very extensive range of art and artefacts that they have there.
The premises comprise several rooms opening off each other and it is quite an adventure seeking out wonderful items. As well as new works on canvas or made as objects there are older pieces too, including artefacts which were once included in a museum display by the gallery owner.
Gallery manager Simone very willingly shared her knowledge with us whilst just encouraging us to look around without any pressure to buy. Of course, we did come away with a couple of 'treasures' which Simone expertly packed and shipped home for us. We also had the most amazing opportunity and privilege to have a lengthy conversation with the CEO of the gallery, Tim Jennings. From his years in the territory as a collector and gallerist he has obtained a most extensive background and detailed knowledge of the indigenous culture, its art and artefacts, and many of its artists and their art.
We encourage everyone to visit Mbantua Gallery even if only to look at what is there - it is an amazing place and well worth the short trip to it.Written 26 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
