Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- alisharp850Newport, UK6 contributionsA great experience to learn all about the RFDS. The staff were lovely and helpful.
Definitely worth an hour or so of your time and there is also a cafeWritten 12 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. While basic (as described on the website), it was good value for money.Written 20 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rob27898Port Kennedy, Australia460 contributionsWasn’t sure what to expect as from the pictures it looked quite small. Although it dosnt take up a huge foot print physically there is tonnes of information and literature to read and see with plenty of fossils and drawings to match.
You can spend 5 mins watching the team behind the glass cleaning and discovering too.
A great hour or so spent mooching and reading. In November the place was super quiet with only the 2 of us in for most of our time.
Staff was friendly and helpful and don’t forget the usual tat-shop at the end.

There are several carriages kept in reasonable condition showing what life was like onboard. In the museum area there are several rooms dedicated to the construction and history of the route as well as various other pieces of significance.Written 10 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PannyMelbourne, Australia14 contributionsGosh, this was a surprise and yet why should it be so? Walking around the school made me feel as if I was actually living in the times this school was built. Such a good place to visit to remind us of how those before us learnt their lessons.Written 17 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Janet4FunMaxwell, IA6 contributionsMy husband and I really enjoyed our visit to The Women's Museum of Australia and Old Gaol. The displays and exhibits were informative and beautifully done. We learned so much. Women had to be strong to survive in that harsh environment in the early days and, as one display said, they often feared childbirth more than accidents or disease since if there were complications there might be no one around with the needed training. We also learned about the important role women played during World War II in Alice Springs and throughout the country. Women stepped up just like they did in my country, the US. I loved the stories about amazing Australia women such as The Honourable Julia Gillard, former prime minister, Senator Larissa Waters, maritime engineer Claudene Sharp Patel, Marlene and Marilyn Kong, the first indigenous people to become doctors in Australia, publisher, Paula Barrett and her important work, and Australia's first female geologist, Georgina King. The lovely woman at the front desk was so delightful and helpful, my husband took a photo of the two of us. This museum is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy learning about history and women's role in making Australia the wonderful place it has become. We actually visited during our 2 month trip to Australia and the south Pacific region in October/November 2022. The calendar didn't go back that far. I'm current creating a scrapbook about our adventure.Written 27 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
