Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Ernest Giles Road was easy driving. We drove most parts of the road at a speed of approximately 80 km/h, slower at some sections and in curves. The road was in very good condition, a few sandy patches. The road surface was pretty even for an unpaved road. I have driven similar roads in a 2WD. I do not suggest you do this as conditions change with the season and the weather. Also car rental companies won't allow you to take a regular car on the Ernest Giles Road. We saw four cars on the Ernest Giles Road; we were not on our own, but it was not busy either. We stopped at the Henbury Meteorites Conservations Reserve for a picnic and walk.

Quick stop here in a shower of rain on our way south.

I'm the old goat in our party.

    Good photo opportunities.

This was about my 5th time passing this spot.

It's on the side of the road with plenty of parking.

A great example of what it was like if you broke the law in the early 1900's. Segregation for the Europeans and the indigenous locals. Interesting comments in the old journals. Great reading of the wall posters. The visit does not take long but it should be done.

Not anyone can have their name in a park. David D. Smith Park is renowned in Alice Springs, as he was the first engineer for the department of Works.

David Smith came to Alice Springs in the early 1930s as the first Resident Engineer for the Department of Works. He developed roads and stock routes. He even worked in Darwin.

He was working hard to construct the Stuart Highway, connecting Darwin with Alice Springs.

His wife Margaret planted the two palm trees in this park.

His plaque is in this park.

He had worked hard and the people living in Alice Springs were proud of him.

This park reminds people of how dedicated he was.

My husband and I really enjoyed our visit to The Women's Museum of Australia and Old Gaol. The displays and exhibits were informative and beautifully done. We learned so much. Women had to be strong to survive in that harsh environment in the early days and, as one display said, they often feared childbirth more than accidents or disease since if there were complications there might be no one around with the needed training. We also learned about the important role women played during World War II in Alice Springs and throughout the country. Women stepped up just like they did in my country, the US. I loved the stories about amazing Australia women such as The Honourable Julia Gillard, former prime minister, Senator Larissa Waters, maritime engineer Claudene Sharp Patel, Marlene and Marilyn Kong, the first indigenous people to become doctors in Australia, publisher, Paula Barrett and her important work, and Australia's first female geologist, Georgina King. The lovely woman at the front desk was so delightful and helpful, my husband took a photo of the two of us. This museum is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy learning about history and women's role in making Australia the wonderful place it has become. We actually visited during our 2 month trip to Australia and the south Pacific region in October/November 2022. The calendar didn't go back that far. I'm current creating a scrapbook about our adventure.
