Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Gabriel P1 contributionVenturing into Tangentyere Artists feels like stepping into a vibrant tapestry of stories and colors. The team there goes above and beyond, not just presenting the art but weaving a narrative around each piece, offering a glimpse into the soul of the creators behind the stunning paintings and intriguing soft sculptures. Their collection is a curated marvel, bridging the gap between traditional artistry and contemporary appeal, with something for everyone. From whimsical kids’ t-shirts to elegant tea towels and cushion covers, each item is a token of culture and craftsmanship.
But the heart of this art centre beats with a purpose far greater than commerce. Operated by the local Aboriginal community, it stands as a beacon of empowerment and sustainability. Each purchase turns into a seed of change, funneling back into the community, supporting the artists, and fueling initiatives that ensure their rich heritage thrives. Shopping here is not just about finding the perfect souvenir; it’s about being part of a meaningful cycle of creativity and support.Written 27 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. However, it is definitely worthwhile making the short drive to visit Mbantua Gallery, whether anticipating buying a painting or just to wander through looking at the very extensive range of art and artefacts that they have there.
The premises comprise several rooms opening off each other and it is quite an adventure seeking out wonderful items. As well as new works on canvas or made as objects there are older pieces too, including artefacts which were once included in a museum display by the gallery owner.
Gallery manager Simone very willingly shared her knowledge with us whilst just encouraging us to look around without any pressure to buy. Of course, we did come away with a couple of 'treasures' which Simone expertly packed and shipped home for us. We also had the most amazing opportunity and privilege to have a lengthy conversation with the CEO of the gallery, Tim Jennings. From his years in the territory as a collector and gallerist he has obtained a most extensive background and detailed knowledge of the indigenous culture, its art and artefacts, and many of its artists and their art.
We encourage everyone to visit Mbantua Gallery even if only to look at what is there - it is an amazing place and well worth the short trip to it.Written 26 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ann TPascoe Vale, Australia1,393 contributionsI love bookshops and will search them out in any town I've visited. This has to have the best collection of Australian books - fiction and non-fiction - that I've seen. And, given it's location, it also has a great collection of books about the Northern Territory.Written 13 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
