Even a grumpy Victorian can still be wowed by the majesty of CQ with bridge & Opera House views.
Like the pyramids or Eiffel Tower, guess SOH comes to mind of everyone thinking Oz internationally.
Really still grabs the eye no matter how many times seen. Magnificent & timeless architecture.
Unfortunately, in 2025 perceptions are stained by the disgusting anti-Israel protests in week after Oct 7, 2024.
Appalled an Australian icon made a deathly back-drop for “gas/get the Jews” chants.

An easy quick ferry ride from Circular Quay and you are there. Many places to go shopping, lunch and dinner and swimming in the beautiful beach. Well worth a visit if coming to Sydney.

A famous tourist destination. The ferry ride gives a good view of Bridge as well as Sydney Opera House. The buildings along the beach also give beautiful views.

An excellent way to go to Manly and an alternative to the fast cat of Manly Ferries. Sydney Ferries operate both large boats and cats on this route and it is pot luck which one you will use in either direction. you can use opal cards or just credit/debit cards at the gates - including UK cards that also work throughout the Sydney transport system. The gates at Manley weren't working properly so our return trip was free. Manly is a popular tourist spot with many places to eat and a beach to walk to in about 5 minutes form Manly Wharf. The ferry gives an outstanding view of both the opera house and that bridge that so reminds me of the one across the rive Tyne at Newcastle.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb is an iconic experience that offers breathtaking views of Sydney. Participants are guided on a climb to the top of the bridge, which stands about 134 meters above sea level. The climb is safe and suitable for most fitness levels, as you're securely harnessed and led by experienced guides. Along the way, you'll learn about the bridge's history and construction, making it both an exhilarating and educational adventure. It’s a must-do activity for visitors looking to see Sydney from a unique vantage point.

The Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney is my favourite botanic garden in the world. While many gardens are condensed, there are vast expanses of space that encourage people to picnic, exercise, eat and drink and celebrate as well as the obvious: to enjoy the plant life.

If you enter the Gardens out by Mrs Macquarie's Chair, you will surely pass Handa Opera and Westpac OpenAir, which is a beautiful entry point and also a great jogging route. Further down are 2 lawns that form a bit of a crescent around one on Sydney Harbour's coves. This is the perfect place to tan, picnic, read a book, etc. As you walk further down, the paths become numerous with a few different choices of what to see. There's a pond with bamboo and Asian gardens. One of the major things I'd like to make note of is The Calyx, which has one of the largest living walls in the southern hemisphere. They use it for exhibitions, events, a cafe and eatery, high tea, etc. It never fails to disappoint. You'll find tropical gardens, entire areas devoted to succulents. Further back into the gardens, you will stumble upon the herb garden and a pavilion; this is so well maintained. Beyond that, you'll see the amphitheatre and another pavilion. Oh, and did I mention the gardens have BATS! Yes, bats! They are a very interesting feature to the gardens. I know I never expected to see bats here. I'd say where they are, but please find them yourself - without the help of the internet. You have a wonderful botanical garden. Enjoy it!

And, if you want to make a full day of it, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, is right across the road from the looped road you will have entered. I think it's the best museum in Sydney, and it amazes me the permanent collection the AGNSW has along with its continuous exhibitions.

    Enjoy Sydney!

Small but busy beach right off the street. Too crowded for us to feel comfortable swimming. Still worth a trip just to say we went. We grabbed some drinks and snacks and had a little picnic.

The best way to appreciate the historic rocks area is to walk. There are many things to see such as the beatiful terraced houses and cottages, the Harbour Bridge and Observatory Hill. There many places to eat at and/or have a drink, including a couple of old pubs full of character.
There is also a large market on the weekend.

The outstanding piece in this year’s visit was an installation by Ken Unsworth. The heavy stones are suspended on wires and float a foot above the ground. This exhibit creates a feeling of calm and tranquility.

Views of the city, water, and landmarks are great, but it is a little pricey for the time you actually need to spend on the observation deck.

30 min is enough time for most people.

Not only a ferry station where we took our daily trip for whale watching and Manly beach, but also a perfect hub to explore Sydney since it is only a few minutes to the Opera House and The Rocks. Shops and restaurants were around. Train station, bus station were also nearby, super convenient to travel around.

Visiting the Chinese Garden of Friendship was an unforgettable experience! From the moment you step through the entrance, you're transported to a serene oasis that feels worlds away from the bustling city outside. The meticulously designed gardens are a testament to the beauty and tranquility of Chinese landscaping traditions.

Every corner offers a new visual delight—whether it’s the stunning koi-filled ponds, the intricately carved pavilions, or the lush, well-maintained flora. The peaceful ambiance is perfect for a relaxing stroll or a reflective pause by the water.

For anyone seeking a moment of calm and a touch of cultural enrichment, the Chinese Garden of Friendship is a must-visit. It’s a gem that beautifully showcases the harmony and elegance of Chinese garden design. Highly recommended!

A friend and I decided to go on impulse after a work lunch. It was her choice and I wasn't sure, although I remembered enjoying the underwater tunnel when I was in high school. It was really good and I'd recommend a visit even if you don't have children with you. It's a deceptively large venue so leave at least an hour but we took about 90min. We ended up spending a fair amount of time around the main tank watching the fish and dugong. It was super relaxing and my Fitbit thanked me for the visit.
