Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Attended with 7 and 9 year old. Both really liked it. It’s not big inside but we enjoyed looking at fossils and reading the interesting facts. $50 entry for family of four I thought was reasonable (for these times).
The outdoor playground is great for all kids under 10. I didn’t notice a cafe which would have been great on a cold day to get a coffee and watch kids play.
The gift shop had great gem items starting at $2, my kids loved getting “treasure” and was economical to get them a few stones each.
Was a great way to spend 2hrs.

On our tour itinerary and guide, Neil, gave us a great history lesson on the origins of the Territory, the early settlers that lived there, the political machinations that led to its creation, the design brief for the city and the vision put forward by Walter and Marion Griffin. Loved the model, helped to put everything into perspective and see the relationship between the vision for the city, suburbs and the natural landscapes and to identify present landmark buildings. Great interactive displays added to our knowledge as we browsed afterwards. Returned a few days later to learn more of the history and admire the public art and historic landmarks nearby. Also helped to have the Visitor Information Centre in the building. Great facility on the elevated block overlooking the lake, parklands and across to Capital Hill.

It was closed when we visited during our tour, and I should have paid more attention to the notice where opening hours are recorded and timed my return visit accordingly.
    Hours of opening are Wednesdays, 10 - 12 am, Saturday & Sunday 2 - 4 pm.
It was Canberra's first school and master's residence, opening in 1845 to provide elementary education for children from the Campbell estate and surrounding farms and continued as a place of education until closing in 1908. It was a simple building constructed of local bluestone and with a shingle roof and was restored in 1968. Not sure if the whitewashing to the stonework replicates an earlier period.
