Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went on a Sunday so we could also attend the market next door. It was interesting. Restauraunts are also within walking distance and parking is reasonable.

We had a lovely lunch here recently on a day trip to Canberra from Sydney. The art was as always interesting and exciting (pity about the women near us who reeked of perfume, we couldn't spend as long as we liked as we couldn't breathe) We hadn't booked for lunch and got the last 2 seats inside. We ordered sparkling water and a wine along with our food. The water came in two bottles, we used the water glasses on the table and about 10 minutes later we got lovely fancy glasses for our water, which was almost gone! Hubby had a very nice green pea risotto, I had twice cooked duck with lovely veg, and beautifully presented along with a glass of local Pinot Noir. $69.50 was money well spent.

We went to the cafe for lunch, we rang ahead to book and were asked to arrive before noon. We were the first to be seated. We ordered and two excellent coffees soon arrived. Its a lovely space however the wooden floors make the building very noisy once other diners arrive.

The food was excellent vegetarian fare, I had a hummus platter an my wife had a filo parcel filled with middle eastern spiced potato. The ingredients were very fresh and were of high quality.

The snake identification chart near the Covid registration desk at the front door is a bit off putting and an artist from the complex advised us there were snakes in the area and to stick to the paths.

I am somewhat snake-phobic but i would happily return to this excellent, somewhat out of the way, cafe.

If I were given to such expressions, the Drill Hall Gallery could be described as 'a hidden gem'. But I'm not, so let's say DHG is a casual and intimate art gallery, operating under the aegis and within the ambit of the ANU. It's run by a small and dedicated team headed by Terence Maloon, formerly the Special Exhibitions curator of the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney. Fortunately for us he's here now. The exhibition schedule is lively and varies wildly. Last time I was here it was unremarkable, pretty awful really. But this time - wow! The ANU has just received a gift of 120 Western Desert paintings from a principal of the legal firm, Maliganis, Edwards, Johnson (yep, you've heard their ads on TV), and they are spectacular. A portion of them are hanging in the Drill Hall, and very well hung they are too -- to great advantage; the large-scale works especially make quite an impact. Really, this is the best exhibition I've been to for quite a while. But it's only on until 16th December. This is your chance to see (up close and personal, in a non-rarified atmosphere) major works by Queenie McKenzie, Yinarupa Gibson Nangala, Esther Giles Nampitjinpa, Kayi Kayi Nampitjinpa (Barbara Reid Napangarti), Nyurapayia Nampitjinpa (Mrs Bennett), Tjawina Porter Nampitjinpa, Linda Syddick Napaltjarri, Lorna Ward Napanangka, Dorothy Napangardi, Nyungawarra Ward Napurrula, Ningura Napurrula, Jorna Newberry, Mel Yamba Nungurrayi, Naata Nungurrayi, Nancy Ross Nungurrayi, Tiger Palpatja, Ray James Tjangala, Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri, Pinta Pinta Tjapanangka, Wimmitji Tjapangati, George Tjungurrayi, and Yannima Pikarli Tommy Watson. As well, of course, there is always Sydney Nolan's Riverbend, on permanent exhibition in a dedicated room, which, when one thinks about post-colonialism (as I'm sure you often do) makes a nice juxtaposition with the current exhibition.

This tiny but perfect gallery has exquisite offerings, all thoughtfully curated by owner Anne. Gentle Anne is just like her her gallery, with an inspirational back story - she adds an extra layer of knowledge to each item when appropriate.

Visiting the GOST is such a treat, from the entry through Ann's beautiful cottage garden to the goodbyes (goodbuys!) knowing that your purchases have benefitted a local fine artist, rather than a Big Shop.

Even my husband, happily waiting in the car until eventually wandering in to join me, was impressed - so much so that I departed with rather more beautifully crafted spoils than intended!

GOST is the perfect antidote to the impersonal, sometimes overwhelming offerings of a large city.

I found it a attempt to legitimise the fake history the aboriginals attempt to force on the other people of this land. Dreamtime is an apt description of the fiction they peddle to the far Left moroons of this country.

We were strolling towards the Lake and I happened to notice the plaque for the Sculpture Garden. My wife continued to the Lake, I descended the ramp and there before me, sculptures by Auguste Rodin. I set out to explore. The Garden covers approx. 3ha and showcases traditional, creative and large-scale works. Felt guilty after abandoning my wife for over an hour and retraced my steps to our meeting point, enchanted by what I'd discovered and disappointed that I hadn't time to explore all. Surprisingly, I encountered only two other persons, Gallery employees enjoying lunch. I didn't see any major directional signage and perhaps, like myself, thought that the Sculpture Garden was the area in front of the building. I've read that the Sculpture Gardens are scheduled to have an extensive $60m makeover, hopefully adequacy signposted on completion so that non Canberrans are aware of its existence in its entirety. Please refer accompanying photos of treasures encountered during my walk.

Excellent, depends on the current exhibition but if you go for the end of year graduate show there's something for every taste. It's also a chance to purchase quality pieces at inexpensive prices from some seriously talented young artists who are destined for great things.

I've have now been invited to exhibit in this space twice now. A nice little space that provides the opportunity for Arts activities, including live music, in the Belconnen area. The location by the lake provides a great backdrop for outdoor sculptures on display. The friendly staff are always willing to answer all your questions about the space.

I've had the pleasure of visiting Scott Leggo Gallery a few times now, both in-store and online, and it's truly a hidden gem!
The quality of their products is outstanding, and they offer a wide range of artworks showcasing the beauty of Australia. Personally, I'm drawn to their stunning coastal aerials. The staff are always friendly and helpful, adding to the overall inviting atmosphere of the gallery. Whether you're an art enthusiast or looking for the perfect gift, a visit to Scott Leggo Gallery is a must. Scott's photography effortlessly transports you to breathtaking landscapes and moments in nature. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Enjoying the sculptures in the Australian Garden and my curiosity piqued when I notice a walkway disappearing underground and people exiting. Deceptive from the exterior as only a grass hillock is visible with an entrance at the end of the walkway. The interior has square walls of a red ochre colour and a round stupa rises from a pool of water to the opening above. The interior of the stupa is domed with an oracle at the top and moonstone directly under. The external plaque informed me that Within Without is a lighting installation, concrete and basalt stupa, water, earth, landscaping. It's by an American artist, James Turrell and one of his largest and more complex Skyspace installations. On exiting I managed to find an elevated position to view the stupa protruding from the top of the mound. Certainly different and interesting.

Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre is a gift shop and exhibition space in the North Building above Canberra Museum and Gallery and directly across from the Legislative Assembly. It only has the one exhibition space but it is often occupied with works by some of Australia’s best contemporary designers and artists. Works are available for purchase and the gift shop is perfect if you want to buy something beautiful and unique, one off designer pieces that I have found always hit the mark and make excellent birthday/anniversary presents, they’ve not failed me yet! Craft ACT is a not-for-profit organisation that supports artists, ‘crafters’, designers and makers at every stage of their careers and so the exhibition space could be showing works by students or novices or it could have works by well established, highly accomplished, professionals. Call ahead and find out what’s showing or, if visiting CMAG below, pop upstairs and take pot luck. I’m yet to be disappointed.

We were really excited to visit here. We own about 10 Aboriginal art pieces, and it's always good to see the styles and cultural view of the world of another community. There's lots of art for sale at very reasonable prices. Recommended for a stop.
