Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Dimitris LSydney, Australia54,756 contributionsWe visited Piazza Maggiore several times during our stay in Bologna. It's a large square surrounded by numerous cafes, restaurants and other shops. It is dominated by the imposing facade of Basilica di San Petronio and other wonderful buildings. The square is a venue for many events and one we witnessed was a graduation ceremony of the University of Bologna Business School.Written 6 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - michelleCoventry, UK38 contributionsWe were spoilt with the weather which allowed us beautiful views from the top. We got the express train up there had we known we would have bought gym gear and walked up. However we walked back down which had beautiful scenes as you walk under the palazzo. We stopped halfway to explore Bologna football stadium too which would be perfect on match dayWritten 8 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PeteFredericksburg, VA1,368 contributionsThe whole complex is considered one of ten significant remaining constructions of the holy sites in Jerusalem. This Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Bologna is definitely considered the most preserved and one of the most accurate replicas. This one in Italy was constructed around 100 years after Constantine’s version in Jerusalem.
Concerning the burial site, The distance between the crucifixion site and the burial site is not known to be a great distance and the True Cross has long vanished and been chopped up with many pieces being claimed all over the world. According to the internet, it’s possible that the 10 leading contenders of claims of pieces of the True Cross may all be forgeries.Written 16 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I decided, with this review, to make a Mathematical modeling problem:
Using the given dimensions (157 ft tall with 10 ft overhang), ratios and proportions from Algebra, and SAS from Geometry, I calculate a negligible amount of overhang with a small angle of tilt around 3.5 degrees and an overhang of extra weight.
However, The main unknown is the binding agent used between the bricks? There’s also uncertainty with the tensile strength. And, corrosive effects are also impossible to measure.
I’m told that equipment is being used to X-ray the insides of the bricks and mortar to determine any potential for cracks, also known in engineering as inclusions.Written 16 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's true that the building is not complete, and that it's not the grand spectacle that most other cathedrals are. It's also true that the interior of the church is largely empty. But it is what it is, and there is enough there to make it worth a visit. When we visited, there was some kind of religious procession going into the church, with some elderly men dressed in bright red at the head of the procession, so that was quite a sight.Written 26 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PeteFredericksburg, VA1,368 contributionsFrom the internet, the First autopsy was done by
Galen of Pergamum. 129 AD.
However, The first known forensic autopsy was done in 1302 in Bologna, which is also where Mondino started descriptive anatomy.
Mondino de Luzzi (ca. 1270–1326) founded the first European medical school in Italy in 1235, incorporating the systematic study of anatomy and dissection into the medical curriculum.
We know there was an anatomical theatre in 1318 because of the famous painting by Ernest Board.1877-1934 and I’m very intrigued by MUNDINUS, THE ITALIAN ANATOMIST, MAKING HIS FIRST DISSECTION IN THE ANATOMY THEATRE AT BOLOGNA, 1318
However, the Current theater at the University of Bologna dates to 1595.Written 17 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A display of their models through the years, with some history notes. However the Factory Tour was really good. Our guide was very engaging and interesting. Ducati employ a lot of women, which is very evident as you go round, and the head of the final inspections is female because women pay more attention small details it seems. Girl Power at its best.Written 25 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- DinFranceStroud, UK562 contributionsA lot smaller and low key than the nearby Ferrari museums. Still pleasant enough and, obviously, some cracking cars there (well beautiful ones to be precise).
Parked in one of some public parking across the road (free). We were an hour early for our allotted time but was not an issue.
Again, some amazing cars there but just the two (small) floors. Despite being car buffs we did it in not much more than 30 minutes.Written 15 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The bus is run by Cosepuri Bus company and has a little kangaroo on the sign!
We started out at Irnerio where we were staying. We took bus 20 from Irnerio to Villa Spada. Then take bus 58 to San Luca €1.50 each one way= $2.45. Buy tickets from the Tabacchi.
Bus 58 can be hard to find but it is well worth getting it up the hill! Look for it on google earth. Once at the Villa Spada Bus stop, you get off and look for Via di Casaglia which is near traffic lights and also a crossing. Look for the entry to the park and bus 58 is on the left hand side looking at the entry gates. Good luck.Written 10 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. First of all, the scenery with rolling hills is striking and the castle itself is beautiful, if curious. It’s better to book ahead ( we learned after s as hour trip there when we had not reserved- luckily we got a place on a tour)!) The visits are all guided- not sure if and when they do English.Written 19 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RonL40Utica, NY3,707 contributionsThe tomb of Saint Dominic is a pilgrimage site in this massive church. The shrine to Saint Dominic, the Arca di San Dominico, is a Renaissance masterpiece, contains three MIchelangelo sculptures along with figures by Nicola Pisano and Niccolo d'Arca. The best paintings in the church include works by Carracci, Filippino Lippi and Guercino, ceiling frescoes by Colonna and Reni, and a pretty Byzantine polyptych by Lippo da Dalmasio. The carved wood intarsia panels by Brother Damiano Zambelli da Bergamo should not be missed.Written 28 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
