... history of Italy and how the country was united, while Alwine told us about her wonderful experiences across the globe, and we were delighted to find out we shared a lot of common ground and views on both topics.
The art and the elaborate floors satisfied my aesthetic eye and the knowledge of the son taking the tour, as well as the sights quenched my thirst for historical relics.

We had the most delicious meals in the towns where we stopped, and Selene taught us about the sights we saw as we rode - -both cultural/man made as well as natural.
I can also recommend staying at Tenuta Luoga Marchese with stunning views and delicious Sicilian cuisine.

Beautiful arabic- normand architecture, fantastic byzantine mosaics-- it's nice to see it before the cathedral and other top sites, and it's well worth the time for the visit.
Often, you are in a gigantic church with high ceilings and you need binoculars to see and appreciate the mosaics -- this place is small enough you will get a good view.

This chapel, slightly off the main tourist track,is well worth the diversion. Here you can view the stunning marble stucco decorations of sculptor Serpotta,in a Baroque church.

The overall view, both at the ground floor and from the balcony, are amazing but you need to take some time to appreciate the tiny details of this scary but so impactful painting

The church opened at 15:30 and after entering I was greeted by the most beautiful sights of a church that spires its ways to the heavens.
The church dates to 1612 and was consecrated in 1677, it was built on the site of the former church of Madonna of Providence.

Meanwhile, the baroque art inside of the church is stunning, the history that you are taught as you walk through the rooms and staircases is brilliant, and the view from the top is stunning.
It's located in piazza Pretoria so there are many other sites right there too if you can't get in.
Palazzo Mirto Palermo
#13 of 647 Sights & Landmarks in Province of Palermo
It needs some restoration here and there, but it gives a nice view how the rich lived in Palermo.
Like most of the other sites we visited, we had the place to ourselves.
