- Douglas B1 contributionWe come from a family of enthusiastic Gin drinkers over many years .We had also known and visited the Wimmera Hills Winery sampling and buying is wonderful wines, again over many years.
Not having been for some years we were unaware of its branching out into the wonderful World of Gin.
Visiting Wimmera Hills in September of this year was , as ever , both rewarding and a joy. The spring weather set off the beautiful valley to perfection and we dined on home grown roast lamb and wine, but preceded by a wonderfully brisk Mrs Baker's Gin ( alas sampling the whole range was not possible given the exigencies of travel and time)
We bought ,as usual , some bottles of wine for the cellar and also bought one of the , to my mind, very reasonably priced and beautifully presented bottles of Gin , fully intending to enjoy it over a good period.
So much for good intentions , when we presented the gin to the wider family, its enthusiastic reception rapidly turned into a keen sampling comparing it to both to a local variety and three of the better( again in my view) international products.
Mrs Baker's won hands down , but sadly , by the end of two days of tastings , there was none left
It is worth visiting Wimmera Hills, for the scenery alone, the Victorian Pyrenees are so unspoilt and beautiful , but the wines, hospitality and now the wonderful gin make it a treasured Must.Written 23 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The tour of the distillery was great. We had such a great time!
