Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Marty K8 contributionsWalk through the past to get a feel for how hard religious life must have been for the cloisters life. Well worth a side trip to tour tge monastery and church. Beautiful little town as wellWritten 28 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- HalkidisSouthwest Finland, Finland4,638 contributionsMy friends live in Nazare, about 15km away and one day they decided to show me this place too. And that was a nice thing, because whole area is really beautiful and in late September, not that crowded anymore. If you have a car, definitely worth of visit if you are driving north from LisbonWritten 25 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very quiet place (March), a fre people were coming and going, the waves were magnificent, we went for a walk up the hill to a village - amazing restaurant and small cafe with great coffee and pastels, wow! If we could we would have stayed longer 🩵recommend definitelyWritten 21 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marion HDubai4 contributionsWe visited Alcobaca last week and it was fantastic. You just need two or three days to see Alcobaca because it's a small city. Alcobaca doesn't have so many famous places but there are some very good restaurants and the beautiful monastry and you can do amazing walks in the streets because Alcobaca is a safe city. The best time to visit is the Spring because at this time of year it is neither too cold nor too hot and to visit we need to walk a lot so it shouldn't be hot. The traditional food is custard tarts, convent sweets, Alocobaca apples and most traditional drink is ginger and the best restaurant is Antonio Padeiro.Written 2 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SVCHARDONNAY54 contributionsA rare and wonderful museum of winemaking. We had a wonderful guided tour from a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. We skipped the offered tastings as we had dinner plans but would return and do that as well.
The facility is historic and the level of work required to convert the old wine storage vats to displays is incredible. The collection of wine making hardware from three centuries. There were also extensive photographs and displays of the history of Portuguese wine exports and where it placed in world viniculture.
As wine collectors we were fascinated by the over two thousand historical bottles displayed throughout the facility. We expect we will return on our next visit and can't offer a strong enough recommendation.Written 11 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The tent was all that we needed - with a bio-fuel burner, air con, toilet, shower, electricity, wi-fi and fridge. The bed was very comfy with a nice mattress & underheated electric blanket & it was lovely to wake up looking out across the lake.
The decking area at the front was perfect for enjoying their lovely breakfast and for relaxing on the deck as we soaked up the solitude of the space.
We visited in mid January on a Sunday & Monday night so more of less felt like we had the space to ourselves & on the Monday night there was a storm which added to the warmth & cosiness of being snug & relaxed in the comfort of the bed.
There is a small fridge & there was an optional mini-bar with 3 bottles of wine, beer & cola if you fancy that. We used the fridge for some of our own food.
A lovely two night get away which actually felt more like 4 nights.
If you like nature & the outdoors but also your comforts then this is highly recommended.Written 17 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Requested a wine tasting without a reservation and we were grateful that our request with met a $12.00 two wines (we had three actually) and a tray of cheese/meet/olives. Shipping to USA is under inquiry, but we bought one to take home.Written 6 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KathleenR_28Port Dover, Canada6,749 contributionsI saw the Farol from the Praia and I knew I had to get up there. After asking a local, I found the inconspicuous staircase that led up to the hill. It wasn’t a real hike up, just 160 steps. The path was blocked by a small wooden boat. Not a biggie as I just tucked myself and squished my waythrough, careful not to trip and fall in the water-filled boat.
The hike up was interesting. The staircase was slippery as it was covered with leaves and I had to go over a fallen tree to continue my climb.
Once at the top, wowowow!!! Truly a spectacular view of the gentle bay, the thundering Atlantic, the many shades of colours of the mountain to the north, and the bluest of skies. I could have stayed here for hours just admiring the special landscape and seascape around me.
The Farol itself is ordinary and small and some parts were covered with graffiti. But if the Farol is the impetus that makes you want to do the walk up, then do so. You will be rewarded with magnificent scenery.Written 12 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AnnieBMacclesfield, UK23 contributionsA wonderful small monastery located in the countryside outside Alcobaca. The monastery is a miniature Santiago de Compostella without the tourists ! Magnificent remains of ancient paintings and beautiful tile work. The altar is a wonder in gold. Small enough to keep any age involved.
Visit the workshop over the road and buy one of their beautiful straw handbags.
