What travellers are saying
- Catherine GMontreal, Canada50 contributionsWe parked near the church and found the place rather desolate. But we walked to the lighthouse and beyond that to the abandoned buildings and the views were breath-taking.Written 20 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- SteveMorristown, NJ5 contributionsMy wife and I visited Ribeira do Cavalo and the beach did not disappoint. Truly amazing beach with spectacular views. Parking and hiking down and then back up took 30-40 minutes each way. When we got down we saw the boat taxis that presumably came from Sesimbra. Definitely recommend that over the hike. We had called Bolhas tours but they said they were not running.Written 1 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Purplehaze259Heidelberg, Germany185 contributionsWe want there as a family. It‘s a moderate walk of about 45 minutes. The castles rather big and one has a nice view of the surrounding area - it‘seven possible to see Lisbon.Written 20 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- MaBeeCork41 contributionsBeautiful beach with white sand, not too crowded In May. Water crystal clear but very cold. Many bars and restaurants nearby.Written 10 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- MrsPiketRotterdam, The Netherlands2,056 contributionsThe Fortress of Santiago AD 1648 is located at the beach side of Sesimbra. The fortress was constructed during the Restoration War (1640-1668) to strengthening Portugal’s Atlantic defences against the Spanish navy. The fortress has a solid appearance. The interior you find the residence of the Governor, the garrison barracks, cisterns, a warehouse and a chapel dedicated to Saint James.
The fortress was damaged during the 1755 earthquake that struck much of Portugal. The last military use was in 1846. The fortress host a museum of the fishing of Sesimbra and a tourist shop. In the museum there is a peculiar church altar which can be closed with cabinet doors.Written 9 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Marylene SMaputo, Mozambique553 contributionsIf you want to escape the beaches of Sesimbra, the Lagoa de Albufeira is the right option, even more so if you have kids. The place is secure, the water is calm and the visibility is perfect. If you want to practice some sports, it is also ideal. The environment is attractive. But if you have a choice, try to go in low season as the place tend to be packed with families and parking is a serious problem!Written 9 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- 11PCGhent, Belgium67 contributionsGreat park. Like really. It is big, spacious, lots of activities on the w-e. Workout area for the grownups, skate and bike park for toddlers and teens. Toddler playing zone with no sand, that designer must have had kids and knows the pain and struggle of sand packed toddlers.
Soccer court, basket ball court. Used to have a café-restaurant, so hopefully someone will reopen it one day.Written 12 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Marylene SMaputo, Mozambique553 contributionsA beautiful, although small, beach very clean and well laid out, along a pleasant promenade lined with restaurants, bars and ice cream parlors.Written 17 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- MaxOregonSesimbra, Portugal76 contributionsPraia de Foz has a relatively small beach, but is surrounded by beautiful cliffs. There is a stretch of rock you can walk around on as well, with little tide pools, etc.. If it's the middle of summer, the small beach area may be too crowded for comfort, but otherwise, it's a scenic beach. There are no services to speak of, however; Meco Beach and others are close by for that.Written 7 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Linda YFrisco, TX5,194 contributionsThe church of Santa Maria (Saint Mary), located inside Sesimbra Castle, was built in 1160 to commemorate Christian reconquest of the land. Santa Maria was a name usually given to converted mosques. Today’s simple church (just a single nave) dates to the 18th century. Most noteworthy are the blue and white tiles featuring scenes from Mary’s life. The high altar features a stunning 17th century carving. Make sure you climb to the top of the Castle walls for spectacular views!Written 18 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Chris C15 contributionsA fantastic wildlife interpretive centre located 20 mins from Azeitao easily found using google maps. If you are into bird/wildlife photography or bird watching then this is the place to go to if visiting Portugal in the Lisbon or Setubal areas.Written 25 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Marylene SMaputo, Mozambique553 contributionsThis public garden adds to the overall charm of Sesimbra. Located in the old center of the city, it offers a very appealing shade that is especially welcome during the hot summer days.Written 8 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
