Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Truth Z11 contributionsThe Falcon castle & the caves was a good value excursion which I would recommend. Great photo opportunities from above the city - self walk & read, and inside the caves the Dutchman shines a light on the walls & art . It was narrated in Dutch so I did not understand much. Would advise doing your own research prior to the tour so that you know what it’s all about. The cave tour is about 1.5hours & do take a light jacket the temperature is very cold inside. The restaurants & cafes are lovely & averagely priced.Written 20 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rgk69Whitstable, UK43 contributionsAbsolutely fabulous, I was one of a coach party visiting Valkenburg over the Christmas week and a Christmas market was being held in the caves.
One of the largest collections of "stalls" I have seen. The caves seem to go on for ever.Written 1 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were given a booklet in English as all the definitions were in Dutch. It was interesting to have a look round.Written 21 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Des HHull239 contributionsThese catacombs are almost identical copies of many of those under the city of Rome and they are built into some old quarry and mine workings. Indeed, so accurate are these copies that when a Roman catacomb was damaged, the copy at Valkenburg was studied to see how the original should be restored. We were a mixed group of Dutch and English speakers and one of our party was recovering from a knee operation. Our very knowledgeable guide was an excellent English speaker and he devised a route that included a large number of the catacombs that could be accessed on a ‘step free’ basis. That did mean the we missed out on a few of the examples. That did not matter as the content that we did see and the explanation that went with them was fascinating enough. An excellent visit. The only downside to this museum is that parking has to be found on street a little walk away from the site.Written 22 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - omottoAssen, The Netherlands26 contributionsVery nice mine, you get a real good view of the life in the mines, even though this mine is a replica because most real mines have collapsed or are floodedWritten 19 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BerihaUtrecht, The Netherlands743 contributionsWas a bit scared as I never did this before, but it is fun and you can manage your own speed very easily! It’s nice to go for a ride!Written 27 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 879martinpPretoria, South Africa83 contributionsWe visited Valkenburg for a day. The main aim of the visit was to visit the Gemeentegrot. You can either do a walking tour or a ride on a" train" tour. We chose the train. Be sure to take extra clothing,ie:jacket or jersey as the temperature inside the cave is 12 degrees Celsius. It becomes quite cold in there. A very interesting cave with lots of art drawings and carvings in the lime stone walls. There is also a very interesting story regarding the cave and the 2nd world war. Will i visit again - yes, next time i will do a walking tour in order to have more time to look at the art.Written 19 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PaulKlaverBarcelona, Spain64 contributionsgreat local casino run by the state casino organisation directly belonging to the Ministerie of Justice. I consider this a mid-size casino. All tables and most games are present. Would be nice if there was slightly more people on some tables. On other tables the play is a bit slow.Written 24 August 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Eor OAuckland, New Zealand235 contributionsThe ruins of this castle which towers over the historic town of Valkenburg is well worth a visit. There are explanations marked along he way to identify each room and the history of the castle is explained in detail with maquettes of what it looked like in different centuries. The outlook from the ruine over the town is impressive and there is a nice restaurant/ cafe near the top to relax in and cool down with a drink.Written 29 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MijnlieverdFHTagum City, Philippines4,110 contributionsThere was no concert or show in that time but we were able to try looking into the area. A very nice amphitheater and the fantastic design of the stage trees around and breezy place. A very nice concert venue usually for a summer event.Written 9 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dave CAlexandria, VA1,618 contributionsA small but comprehensive collection of local archeology, culture, mining, fossil, and some interesting contemporary art exhibits. Make sure you go up the stairs to the second and third floors. Very little is in English but many exhibits are self explanatory. The building itself is a very old place, with narrow stairs and no air conditioning but fine on both for reasonable mobility; a elevator is also present. Admission was 8 euros per person.Written 31 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
