I got amazing guide Misgan. During my trip yo Lalibela my lugagge was lost by ethiopian and Misgan helped me a lot. Except of guiding me thorough amazing churches with really detailed historical facts and details he aldo vontacted ethiopian and guided me to solve problems to deliver my luggage back to me. Really thanks

I spent two days & nights in Lalibela exploring the rock-hewn churches and the surrounding mountains under the care and guidance of Highland Eco Tours & Trekking. It included the history and overview of the churches, a 14K day trek up to one of the churches in the mountains, lunch with my guide and his family in his home (the best) . I absolutely loved the whole experience. I felt safe (as a woman traveling alone), cared for and comfortable that I had the best possible experience and that I had not missed anything AND that I still want to come back for more.

Cannot recommend this tour operator enough, from the arrival to the departure was flawless. Their knowledge of not just the churches and history of Lalibela, but even down to the details of the bird life made this a truly one in a lifetime experience.

What I remember most about my guide Maereg was his diligent service, promptness, efficient time-management, and impressive knowledge of Ethiopia - the ancient and the new. During the trip, Maereg made sure that I felt at ease, safe and secure as a female traveler. And that meant a lot.

For eight days Maereg got to know me and I got to experience the wonders of Ethiopia.

Firstly, the capital, Addis Ababa, the highest elevation of a city in Africa, which was more like a state than a city, boasted national/ state museums, cultural centers, numerous universities/ UNESCO World Heritage Sites, churches, cathedrals, cafés (the origin of coffee began here in Ethiopia), memorials, financial, telecommunications, infrastructures, shop centers, outdoor markets, etc.,.

Then there was the massive rock-hewn monolith churches of Lalibela, (woa!) which is home to the oldest Christian communities in the world (as well as for Maereg, his lovely wife, and adorable children who were kind enough to have invited us to their home to meet the family & served us a delicious authentic Ethiopian dinner complimented with Honey wine). Also, Lalibela is known as Ethiopia's "New Jerusalem" because it holds religious importance and the opportunity to pilgrimage for there Orthodox Christians.

And lastly, Gondar, once the capital of the former Ethiopian Empire, showcased palaces, castles, churches, fortified walls, built by each royal successor beginning the 17th century and has been called the "Camelot of Africa," idealized as in a place of high-level culture with a purpose/ belief of what community with a shared purpose can achieve.

Since returning home, the trip to Ethiopia has stayed with me like a hum, tune or song which reminded me that for eight days I was in paradise. I hope to carry this happiness in me forward until I can get back to that happy place, Ethiopia 🇪🇹 . Thanks, Maereg for all that you did to make this experience possible.

    Sincerely,
    Romanáh H-B

About this team: Aman and his team strive to provide the best they can. We saw lovely sights of active volcanoes, stayed outdoors, very unique 12th century churches ( that have been visited by both Bill Gates and George Bush). We got to taste healthy which food everywhere which is very healthy despite awesome taste. We had a sick baby with us but the team went above and beyond to get her to the doctors and pharmacy which I truly appreciate. Both Yihun and Sisai did great! More than anything, I totally appreciated Aman's customer oriented mind set. The tour was a memorable one at the very least!

About Ethiopia : look, please go in with an open mind. Many parts of the country are untouched by modern societies and precisely is the charm (this does come with us own issues but more about that later). You can visit ancient tribes and see how they live etc. (Tip: take extra old clothes to donate if you can. It goes a long way for them). As a part of the tour you choose, you might be traveling distant lands for hours on a daily basis. Prepare to go in with an open mind to truly experience the wonder of that.
Issues ( prepare accordingly for a fabulous trip): Ethiopia has mostly bad roads outside of the main towns it's really dusty in some parts of the country so carry sun glasses, sun screen, and a hat). Carry swimsuits to bathe in salt and fresh water as well. You might be hours away from a doctor so if you have kids, or for yourself, carry basic meds. If you are used to glamping with fancy bathrooms, talk to the host before the trip starts so you can plan accordingly. Very few clean bathrooms along the way to some of the remote places. Limited food options with clean places to eat in the remote areas. None of these are restrictions to traveling but if you are a kind of person who is very focused on material comfortable, aggressive planning is needed to visit these untouched parts of the world!

I just finished an amazing 3 day hike in Lalibela with my guide Abuwa and It was way more than I expected. The people of lalibela welcomed me into their homes, broke bread with me and showed me a way of living I've never experienced before. I have never felt so safe and cared for by people other than my family and close friends. The issues further north are nothing to be concerned about in lalibela anymore.I went and never felt I was in any danger and had a great time. I can't recommend this tour enough!!

Abuwa is extremely knowledgeable about the stone churches and surrounding areas, there was never a question unanswered and the love he had for his community and them for him you can feel with every interaction you'll see. My only complaint is I was the only person out in the village due to the pandemic and issues with TPLF months prior. If you find yourself in Lalibela this is the tour for you!!

Our family had a great experience with Papyrus tours. We visited Bahir Dar during Christmas vacation. Staring from the day I booked my trip with 'Papyrus .' we were getting timely instructions and updates from their team. From the time we reached Cochin airport till or return we were well taken care of by Papyrus team especially by our tour manager Mickey He was like a family member making us all families feeling the same affection towards him. He catered to our needs with utmost care and professionalism. Mekeru to team Papyrus. And to end with they have given us a gift voucher also. Hope to join the Papyrus family for the next trip very soon.

We had a very enjoyable time in Bahir Dar. All went smoothly except for a couple of hiccups early on flight delay and a bit of rain. Hotels were good, transport on time, and the guides were good. Information was very helpful.

Thanks to Dan for an amazing trip to Lalibela to see the ancient rock hewn churches. It was the highlight of our trip to Africa and can highly recommend Dan to anyone thinking about visiting this amazing site. Despite recent concerns in the area, we felt 100% safe. So glad we made the trek.
