The palace collection contains some impressive artefacts displaying Georgian nobility's history and living, however the building, the rooms are in very sad condition. Clearly it is underfunded and unprofessionally kept, which is strange because this is easily the only museum of Samegrelo region of such importance. Staff are tired and unfriendly, relaxed and "couldn't care less" attitude displayed everywhere. The garden around the palace is fantastic, well kept. The restaurant on the grounds is quite good (great food, slow service). This museum is a must visit when in Zugdidi, of course.

Silver lakes system including 5-7 lakes, depends which trail you do - Samegrelo (5) or Samegrelo-Svaneti (7).
It is undescribable journey in the Alpine zone meadows, lakes, tropical forests, waterfalls and breathtaking lakes.
Best period is 15 July - 30 September. I advise you to start in vil. Mukhuri with the car till the trekking trail beginning and do circle route to Skuri gorge. It will take you to the one of the memorable trips of you life ^^
Spend at least one night at the first lake - Okhoje and after the biggest one - Tsashkibulish Tobavarchkhil follow the trail which takes you to the local Shepard's shelter - Jickiri. Ask for the local traditional food Elarji and local mountain cheese - Sulguni. Host's names are Elguja and Jemali Morgoshia <3 <3
If you stay at the largest lake do not miss the sunset from the little hill to the west, where lake has little outflow, you will have the feeling of swimming above the clouds with the sun beams...
Make sure to have 6 days for the trip and for last day reserve the truck back from Kirnakhona shelter to Skuri village.
Also, last night you will stay at Jalara campsite, walk around and find the second river (Magana), which is warmer and is great opportunity to wash and take a ,,shower" ;)))

This fortress is just before the bridge separating Samegrelo from Abkhazia. In addition to visiting the fortress, if you go on top of it you will have a great view on Abkhazian landscape. It is an abandoned fortress, therefore no working hours restrictions or entrance fees. If you are in Zugdidi, then it is a nice place to go.

The river Enguri forms the border between Georgia and the disputed territory/ country of Abkhazia. You need to cross this river by a long bridge to get into Abkhazia from Georgia.
It is a fast flowing river but its fame is mostly due to the border crossing. The river forms the no-man's land at the crossing.

On our way from Svaneti to Kutaisi, we had a one night stopover in Zugdidi. We loved it, although the main attraction (palace) was closed because of elections. The market was lovely and people very welcoming. We could check in at any time, the woman at the bakery didn't want me to pay for a traditional bread. Nobody bothers us and as we had to buy a special sunglasses, the guy in the store was very patient using Google translate.
Loved the place and far better than to drive the long drive from Mestia to Kutasi in one day.
Of course some buildings are very 'old', but intriguing especially with the big Dutch truck in front.

I enjoyed visiting the Cathedral, interesting history (luckily we had a great guide!) However, as with all such places it can get very busy so go early (or late in the day I suppose but can't verify).

Botanical garden in Zugdidi was built in the late 19th century by the prince of Samegrelo David Dadiani, near his residence. The garden now has over eighty genus of exotic plants introduced from southeast Asia, India, Japan, Mediterranean and the Americas. Special species of Ginkgo biloba tree and Sekvoia are most interesting in the garden.

There are several different explanations as to how the Robe came to Georgia. According to one account, it was brought from Jerusalem at the beginning of the 12th century. According to another, it was brought to Georgia in the 8th century, during the period of iconoclasm in Byzantium.
Every year on July 15, the Most Precious Robe is carried from the Museum to the Cathedral of the Blachernae Icon of the Theotokos. After the festal Liturgy the faithful joyfully venerate this most treasure of the Christian Faith.
Pilgrims from many countries have traveled to Zugdidi to venerate the Robe of the Most Holy Mother of God.
