Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- EvaF2EvaLorrach, Germany5,127 contributionsThe Danube Gorge by Kelheim is breathtakingly beautiful. And like all such places it gets very crowded on nice days as everybody wants to see it. If you go there be aware it might be tricky to find a parking place although there are plenty of them.
I personally parked far a way and walked. It not only allowed me to park comfortable and for free but also let me balance the time spent in crowds with the lonely walking in the beautiful forests in the neighbourhood.
I truly loved this place and will definitely come back soon.Written 4 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Operating the brewery since 1050 continuously they have received the best dunkel a number of times in the last 15 years. Roughly an hr from Munich international, this is a great stop for night 1. This is accessed by car or motorbike. Free parking clean basic rooms ( no tv) and community room for night beer and wine with friends, and hopefully new friends. Very good free breakfast too.Written 10 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- cathydJekyll Island, GA2,566 contributionsIf you are in the area, be sure to do the hike up the hill to visit this magnificent memorial built by Ludwig I. Once at the hall, you have to walk past to buy your ticket. It’s 165 steps up a spiral staircase to the top of the gallery. The walkway outside at the top was closed during our visit. Stop in the local town afterward for lunch. Highly recommend Gasthof Berzl.Written 11 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ABKStorm Lake, IA111 contributionsThis is a beautiful Baroque church with impressive artwork throughout. I found the statue of St. Georg slaying the dragon at the front to be completely captivating and unlike anything I had seen in other Bavarian Churches. My 9 year old son was very taken with it too, studying it for a long time. It's like looking at picture in a fairy tale book, but in 3D. The other artwork on the sides was very lovely and interesting as well. There is a calm and welcoming atmosphere in this church; it manages to be impressive without being imposing. On the hot summer day we visited Weltenburg, it was also a very cool quiet place to rest. There were many other tourists coming in and out, but it still had a calm and sacred atmosphere.Written 3 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - brent bArroyo Grande, CA281 contributionsi try to go here every time i go to kelheim. it is an ancient monastary and claims to be the oldest continuous brewery. by history it was founded 617 ad. they have been brewing beer since 1050. the beer is excellent. they have three beers and all are good. they also sell beers to take home. the food is good and the service is also great. it is a short drive or beautiful walk from kelheim.. there is also a frequent boat from kelheim to the monastery. a small gift shop is on site with mostly religious objects for sale with the usual hats and shot glasses.Written 7 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vakantiejozefOlen, Belgium6,097 contributionsPart of a mololite church, adorned by frescoes. Partly rock / partly built. On the location of the monolite Chapel of St. Nicholas (built in 1405 by hermit Antonius von Siegenburg) in 1603 this "Höhlenkirche" was built, this monolite Church belongs to one of the few monolite churches of Europe with a natural roof (formed by a far-overhanging rock). In its interior the walls are decorated with frescoes, the fresco residue at the inner part of the outer wall are considerably damaged due to weather conditions.Written 9 August 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vakantiejozefOlen, Belgium6,097 contributionsOnce the port had four secondary loop-turrets, still preserved is the defensive Tower, this century above the southern opening two stone lions were attatched dating back to early 15th century and most likely a remnant of the old Castle. On the north side the municipal coats of arms as fresco, it dates back to the period around 1280 and is a reprint from 1292.Written 13 August 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jen112017Munich, Germany80 contributionsThe gate is located in the old town. Its a nice architecture but nothing special. You´ll probalby see it anyway once you are in the old town as the town is not big.Written 16 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Richard RMukilteo, WA798 contributionsWe parked at the Befreiungshalle Kelheim and started our 3.7 km walk after a look inside (well worth it). We had one of the grandkids in a stroller so you can see from that it is a good trail. Took the "boat on a wire" across the Danube, had a beer at the monastery, and then took the tour boat downriver back to Kelheim. The final link was a motorized train that meets you at the boat, tours the town, and delivers you back to the memorial. A great treat (all the parts of the roundtrip) for the 3 grandkids - and adults as well.Written 15 May 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jen112017Munich, Germany80 contributionsYou can either walk or bycicle here along the Danube. There are nor cars or ships going here. Enjoy a good Brotzeit or a cold beer in the beergarden.Written 13 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vakantiejozefOlen, Belgium6,097 contributionsThe former electoral granaries were built in 1480 on the donjon of the old Castle. Originally intended for the Duke’s tithes, around 1850 it became urban property, significant changes were implemented in the 21st century: in 1969 the building was stripped internally, the walled pillars stripped and the floor secured with handmade rivets, at present the building represents as its outlook must have been in the middle ages. In 1981 the archaeological Department of the Museum was opened on the ground floor: the pre-and early history of Kelheim and environment, it covers the period of Neanderthals from the Altmühlvallei to the Ducal residence of the Wittelsbach genus in Kelheim, top floor: urban history and theme "Kelheim-city on the river". 7 April 1983 the Archaeological Museum of Kelheim received the "European Museum special price" by the Council of Europe.Written 9 August 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vakantiejozefOlen, Belgium6,097 contributionsBuilt in 1548 to the center of the intersection and used as urban administration centre. Past the demolition of the original City Hall it was used as municipality seat in 1824 (currently called "altes rathaus"), in 1912 the town hall was rebuilt. The entrance gate leads to a courtyard with fountain.Written 9 August 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
