Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Could wander round here all day. Beautifully landscaped and tranquil. Quite steep but the climb to the top is well worth it to find the ruins of a medieval castle. If you love greenery, moss and tempting little stone paths then you’ll be in heaven here.

This is a great shortish walk. It doesn’t require fitness or poles- but the view at the lookout is as good as if you’ve hiked for days.

Wonderful experience after an off-piste run down. Dragged on skis behind a skidoo to a fabulous little country restaurant, where we were served a marvellous meal. After we had eaten, we were taken by piste-basher to the lift, which was opened up for us. A great day.

A time capsule of a museum which truly captures the history of the area.

The English guided tour, led by the knowledgeable and passionate Nora, is well worth the €7.50 entrance fee. And you also get a sample of local jam and cheese, with drinks.

After an introduction from Simone the owner - with an overview of the construction of the farm house using a cleverly designed model - Nora walks you through the rooms in building itself. It felt like stepping back in time.

The contents of the museum are fascinating, many implements need explanations as to their use, and the guide ensures that children are engaged in these descriptions and given a chance to hold them.

This is lovely museum, a true reflection of the owners passion. It is well worth going to an English speaking tour, so visit the Tourist Information in Samoëns to check the days and timings (at the time of writing these were on Tuesday at 5pm during July and August).

You reach this destination from the Joux Plan Car park which is a destination in itself with awesome views, a place to sled, cross country ski or mountain hikes. They have a small rental hut with skis and sleds as well as a restaurant too. A must see if you are in the region.

A beautifully light old church in the heart of Samoëns. The gentle chanting music you hear as you walk round is very atmospheric.

My wife and I took snowboarding lessons with ESF in April 2024. Chris is vastly experiecned and is an exceptional instructor.
We were a group of 3 and had snowboarded before, but that was 18 years ago! Chris was excellent at assessing our ability, first on the nursery slopes.
For the rest of the week he educated and pushed us, just the correct amount, to improve, providing tips and taking us on beautiful runs around Samoens. The difficulty level was always appropriate and we all could see that we were lucky to have such a cool, calm, skilful, considerate and patient instructor. I improved massively in the first couple of days and all of us went off-piste at some point during the week. Highly recommend - and we'll be back!

The town is lovely with lots of nice restaurants. We stayed at MMV which was nice and clean and about 10 minutes walk each from the centre and to the ski lifts.

However, the resort infrastructure doesn’t appear to support the number of people coming through, so in our 3 days of skiing we don’t make it outside of the Samoëns runs (also hindered by high winds and lifts being shut - which appears to be a regular issue here).

Even with lifts open, the main chair which gives you access to the other areas would take about an hour to get through due to volume of people. We witnessed 2 people passing out whilst we were waiting. It’s a disaster and we could have saved a fortune in lift passes!
