Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- J. AnderWashington DC, DC5 contributionsI will start this review with a bit of advice: Do your research prior to coming to this island!
This island is not Capri and the opposite of the touristy spots parts of Italy are known for. It is an incredibly rocky island with very few beaches accessible by land. Those that are, are quite small and can get crowded. When the island is described as having “dramatic cliffs”, it is basically describing most of the island, where it meets the sea.
Some people may find this island “lacking” in restaurant, shop, hotel, and entertainment options. Others, like my family and me, will find the island perfect, exactly as it is, and hope it never becomes a tourist hotspot.
We visited the island on a day trip from Rome. We did this as a family of five with three teenagers, not part of a tour. I would not recommend this as a day trip to anyone with small children or anyone with limited mobility, but for an active family like mine, this was perfect!
We took a very early train from Roma Termini to Anzio, walked from the train station to the Anzio port, and took the ferry to the island. Being an experienced boater, I rented a boat (without a captain, but I would recommend renting with a captain if you are not experienced on open water). None of us spoke Italian, but found everyone we encountered incredibly hospitable. From the shop owners to restaurant staff, people were kind to our attempts at Italian using google translate and reciprocated with attempts to communicate back in English.
My family spent a truly memorable day cruising around the island, stopping to swim and snorkel in the most amazing water you have ever seen. The cliffs are stunning and the secluded beaches, coves, and grottos only accessible by boats are spectacular, being preserved by their natural, limited access.
We rented a six person dinghy from Asterix, located in the same port where the ferry docks. While we did not make a reservation in advance, I would recommend this, in high season.
We purchased some incredible food and drinks to enjoy on the boat throughout the day, and also did some shopping in town, prior to heading back to Anzio on the ferry at 5 pm.
If you ask any of my kids their favorite memory from our Italian vacation their answer is the same: Ponza.Written 12 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. 'La Murenaia' is a place built with the specific purpose of breeding morays: the dish you cannot miss if you are a Roman Patrician, name Pilato (God knows if he was 'that' Pilato!) having party in your villa, located on the top of the cliff where the caves are located). So yes! Tell one of your slave to go down there...without stuble on those terrific steps...pick a big moray and let the party begin!
Apologize for the little maccheronic premise, but...that place (reachable by boat, or swimming...the first is highly suggested) give you that feeling...to be back 2000 years and see exactly the same scenario. The place is incredible...have a swim there is a unique wow moment you will tell your 'evious' friends for the rest of your live when back in Londonium, Mediolanum, Parisii...or wherever within the Empire...Written 10 February 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There was a local warning us for medusas (jellyfish) but we didn't encounter any. Beautiful spot to watch the sunset. Almost nobody around.Written 28 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Rebecca R5 contributionsWe walked down from our hotel in the early evening when most people had left for the day. So our experience was atypical. Normally there are umbrellas and people and snacks and drinks etc. For us it was very quiet with incredible water and few other bathers. It is rock slabs so there's no cushy sand to lie on, but the water is incredible. Views are great. Delightful first excursion just after checking in to our hotel.Written 14 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kjell IOslo, Oslo, Norway19 contributionsLuna Beach is the perfect place for a romantic sunset. Unfortunately the beach is closed due to falling rocks, so you cannot climb down to the beach, but it’s just as beautiful from the top. Next time we will go by sailing boat and ancor in the bay.Written 2 October 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joe D11 contributionsBeach is dirty (needs a rake). Water was dirty and falls deeply quickly. Easy to get to from Port though but unless you want to take a boat tour around the island, it's really the only accessible beach in town. Avoid Frontone Beach Club. Very expensive umbrella/bed rental (60 euro for 1 umbrella and 2 beds). No working bathrooms (smelly port a potty) and you still pay 1 euro for the shower. Suggest you pack your own lunch.Written 10 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- fredericdemeyerGeneva, Switzerland15 contributionsMost of beaches in Ponza are stones. You can enter quietly in the water. This a very good possible for familily with mal children. I would suggest for people looking for lonelyness Cala Feola just next by. Ask a local for the access.Written 13 September 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- fredericdemeyerGeneva, Switzerland15 contributionsA little Paradise, better than mis beaches in Ponza. The stone gives to water this true turquoise color that you'll never forget. Why going to Seychelles or Maldives when Ponza exists ?Written 13 September 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Agnes56Budapest, Hungary185 contributionsI walked to that point from Chiai Di Luna bay. It was in the morning around 10 o clock. I never saw anything like this before, the white was shining white or sparkling white that time. It changes colour accornding the angle of the sun shine, but it is always breathtaking. You may see it from a boat and it has different colour from the see to. Simly a must to visit it.Written 25 September 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MarcoRome, Italy470 contributionsMany steps to get to it but worth the effort. Very pretty spot and nice small restaurant on the beach.
