Our visit was in mid June and on a rainy day. Walking kept us warm and a lovely visit to a tea and pastries shop kept us going. The island was in full bloom with lilacs and wildflowers. Ferns and succulents were gorgeous. Many opportunities for beautiful photos!
We visited the fortress museum and the darling toy museum and both are excellent with plenty of accurate and informative descriptions of very interesting displays.

Out of all the churches you can see in Europe, this one might be the most unique. Cut out from the bedrock and topped with a very cool copper roof.

The island is a lovely place to wander around, but I would highly recommend taking a tour in order to appreciate this site more fully (English tours every day at 3 pm). Our tour guide (who I believe was named Vili) was very knowledgeable and patiently indulged our many questions! We really appreciated his expertise.

A majestic building in the centre of the city - like a topping on a wedding cake. Great deal of steps from Senate Sq to the top - but you do see the surrounding area of the city and the waterfront from the top.
We did visit inside, however there is major renovation taking place as there were scaffolding and sheets covering a large part of the west wing.

This new building is in the centre but it’s a quiet island. It was made from 3 different kinds of wood. The inner shape reminds me an egg. Inside is very simple, so you can relax and listen to the silence or your inner voices. It’s perfect peace.

One of the most beautiful Orthodox cathedrals. Great architecture. Small but beautifully painted interior.

I love using the trams system for hop on hop off seeing places around Helsinki. By planning ahead, the tram system is also great for sightseeing before actually going to see the various sites.

A visit to this place should be number one on any Helsink tour. The building is stunning from many angles of view, but more important is the content. The whole concept of an interactive space for learning and knowledge/skill enhancement is taken to a new level. The bar is raised for libraries everywhere. Where else can one borrow a guitar and learn to play? where else can one actually record music in a professional studio? where else can one learn to cook? where else can one walk in with a program and operate a 3d printer.... not to mention the obvious internet knowledge base interactions possible. The Finns truly have a Helsinki treasure that contributes to making Finland one of the best places in the world to live. Amazing

Happy Place, the open area was a buzz with street performers and street cafe. Made the place more relaxing and entertaining. If I had to paint a picture it would be picturesque.

With the addition of new restaurants and a huge hotel, Helsinki Central Railway Station offers a lot. Even though the restaurants opening hours could be better, you can sit down and watch the people rushing by on a numerous amount of spots. If needed, you can always catch a train on the go, and find yourself in some place new in a matter of hours :)

I booked our over night cruise out of curiosity after seeing something similar between Oslo and Copenhagen in Oslo. Furthermore, the cost of overnight cruise was cheaper than a night in a Stockholm hotel plus air fare. Boarding the ship was somewhat chaotic and surprisingly no secuirty checks or passport control. I left two bottles of water in the hotel thinking water would not be allowed as per airport security.
Once on board and into our allocated cabin, it was quite reasonable. Dining in the Grand Buffet was a mad rush, but the choice was plenty. Beverage on tap and plentyful of beer and wine. Breakfast was also a mad rush.
One important point is that of the time zone with Finland is 1 hour head of Sweden, be aware of it when comes to dining time.
Overall it was an enjoyable trip
