Ladadika district in Thessaloniki is close to the city centre, and it has a very high concentration of restaurants, for all tastes. I visited this district in the evening for dinner, and I randomly selected three great Greek restaurants (reviewed separately).

Had the good fortune to arrive during a service, which was lovely to hear. (I’m not orthodox, so the service is unique for me) Very ornate on the inside.

This is one of the main attractions of the city and dates from the period of the Ottoman occupation, around the 15th century. It was built as part of the city's fortifications. It has six floors connected by stairs and the top floor has a terrace that offers marvelous views of the sea and city. Each of the other five floors showcases the varied history of the city, with a unique theme on each floor.

Our visit to the museum was truly amazing. The exhibits are very well displayed and organized.

Good selection of permanent and rotating exhibitions.

The visit is supported by an excellent mobile app, Museum on the Go, which allows you to learn more about the exhibits, and listen to audio explanations (twelve languages available).

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Even the cafeteria was well set up, to recharge during the visit.

"Πλατεία Αριστοτέλους" (Aristothelous Square) is the main city square in Thessaloniki, and it is located on in the city center. It was designed by French architect Ernest Hébrard in 1918, but most of the square was built in the 1950s.
It is a pedestrianized area, crossed by a few street where traffic can circulate. It is huge, and a perfect area for strolling around, especially on sunny days. There are several shops, restaurants, cafes, and hotels along the square.

A lovely museum, nicely displayed with English signs as well as Greek.
However, check the opening times. It closes at 3.30pm on Saturdays and not sure if it’s open on Sundays at all.
Cafe is closed for refurbishment but not to worry there are lots of wonderful cafes in Thessaloniki.

This museum is in the house where Ataturk lived as a child and tells the story of his childhood and ascent to power. He was the founder of the modern Turkish state.

An early 4th-century AD, the Rotunda was commissioned by Roma Emperor Galerius as an element of the imperial precinct linked to his Thessaloniki palace.

The Rotunda was initially a mausoleum, then it was converted into a Christian basilica dedicated to the Archangels. After the Ottoman conquest it became a mosque, and on return of Thessaloniki to Greece it was converted back to a Christian church (and archaeological site). A minaret is preserved from its use as a mosque, and ancient remains are displayed on its southern side.

It is now dedicated to Saint George, and only fragments have survived of the original mosaic decoration. A band depicting saints with hands raised in prayer is the most beautiful part (according to me).

The current structure of the church of "Ἁγία Σοφία" (Holy Wisdom) dates from the 7th century. It is one of the oldest churches in the city still standing today, and it is one of several monuments in Thessaloniki listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After Thessaloniki was captured by Ottomans it was converted into a mosque, and It was converted back into a church after the liberation of Thessaloniki in 1912.

It is a very beautiful church, and it is well worth a visit.
