Visited the central market as I love markets and there was a dazzling array of butcher stalls and fish mongers. Also a few cute little cafes in the market - shame we had had breakfast or it would have been good to try. We also saw the nuts and spices stalls on the outside of the market but didn't really see any fruit and veg though there were shops selling an assortment of cheese. The display units of the butcher shops were very impressive! We went there before 9 and there were still fish on sale. An interesting market to get a glimpse of local life.

Nice collection of the High Street labels under one roof. Also included are Greek designers. Plenty of staff but lack of cashiers - customer has to walk to the singular cashier station located at the furthest corner of each floor. Would be a much better shopping experience if the products could be bought at their individual sections throughout the store. Accessibility is a real issue. No clear map to navigate each floor. Although there were both escalators and a lift, the floors had multiple levels and there were a number of stairs before you could ride the escalators. Would be challenging to reach all departments of the store in a wheelchair.

Absolutely loved the place. As soon as walked in overwhelmed by the paintings on display. Unfortunately, one cannot take photographs in the gallery. Great art work by artists. I could have sat there all day spellbound by some of the artwork. A must see when visiting the area even if one can only dream of buying as prices are quite high!

Walking around ancient Athens we stumbled into a small art installation by accident - it was right in front of Ioannidou Art Gallery. We were amazed how authentic and genuine Xanthia’s works are. The artist and owner was there and welcomed us warmly. It was a short but very memorable highlight of our trip (magic is everywhere)

I love farmers’ markets and we passed through this one on our way to lunch in this neighborhood. Such colorful veggies—masses of tomatoes, purple eggplants of several varieties, many kinds of olives, plus carrots, lettuce, melons, beans, and even some fish. It’s a mouthwatering experience and fun to see even if you are a tourist and can’t buy anything!

I highly recommend dropping in to this shop! Huge selection of clothes - we all found some really nice stuff. For some of it you pay per item - for some it gets weighed - great concept!

Much the same wares can be seen in the surrounding streetscapes but nevertheless it was diverting strolling around and commenting on the eclectic range.

There was a modicum of busy-ness, but probably nothing like it would be in high season in a normal year.

That was truly an experience. The owner took time also to speak with my kids and brought culture and life of an artist to their world… extraordinary attitude❤️🙏 #grateful

Market square opposite monasteraki subway with alleys to flea market, restaurants etc.
Its it the heart of Athens, a nice place to visit with your family to shop, eat and roam around. There are a lot of antique shops, restaurants and historic sites.

We visited here 3 years ago and bought some earrings and a wedding ring for my husband, which they later posted home for us. Recently my husband lost this ring and we were able to get the item remade. Ersi was so helpful and kept us up to date with the quote and postage. I still love the earrings I bought and would make these guys a must visit when I am in Athens again. The gallery itself was fresh and interesting and going by the ongoing artist exhibitions always offering something different.

If you are growing wary of the Plaka and the repeat of cheap tourist items, Amorgos is an oasis. From the outside it is both intriguing and imposing. My cousin and I were worried it would be too pricey, but we each bought very meaningful and reasonably priced unique gifts for friends there. I particularly enjoyed the hand-painted puppets and punched tin good luck trinkets. You cannot take photos inside though. (They wouldn’t do the shop justice anyway!)

Stopped in the gallery while wondering the streets. We looked at all his beautiful work and ended up commissioning Sofokli to paint us the LouLou Boat is a 36”x78” for a wall in our home. He sent us pictures through out the process, so exciting.

We LOVE the piece and it’s definitely worth every penny. A truly wonderful artist.

The nice touch is almost all the art is his work and he runs the gallery so you get to meet the artist of your piece.

Currently there is an expedition of the artist giorgos pantazis. He was very open minded while I commended his art. The place is amazing and they offered me wine and strawberries. I recommend to visit it if you are around, and consider the room to show your art.
