Wonderful gardens, beautifully landscaped with fantastic views over Funchal. The art gallery, on two floors, has a terrific collection too. One of the highlights of our visit to Madeira. Would come again if ever back on the island

Sunday quite quiet. Booked online so joined 'with tickets' queue - not well signed but on right if looking with waterfront behind you. Queue moves quite quickly. Smooth ride. Good views. You could get bus down much cheaper, but ride down is lovely too. No sledge rides on Sundays. At top we walked up past church up towards Pico Alto. Very steep and strenuous!

The gardens were lovely to stroll around in the sun. Reasonably priced to enter. The slopes are not too steep. Luckily the cable car started to run shortly after we got to the station.

Great tour of the Wine lodge. Our guide was informative and funny at times. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the product. Nice wines to taste and the end of the tour. Even though the Museum/History section was a bit rushed the booklet given explained everything. Great opportunity to purchase and collect at the airport, bypassing security.

This popular museum is located near the harbour. The famous football star himself opened it in 2013. You can learn the story of his life and his success, and see his golden balls, which he has won five times. In the hall we bought souvenirs and memorabilia that are not available elsewhere.

We booked our tickets near the port end of Funchal, we only booked the tickets for the botanical gardens & cable car - one way ticket which included the bus up to the botanical gardens. From the botanical gardens you take the cable car up to Monte. The trip and views are great, there were no queues when we visited. We then took the toboggan down and walked down gradually to Funchal afterwards (very steep).

We found this beautiful park near our accommodation. The entrance is free. It is very well kept, clean and cosy with a pond where birds swim. We walked among exotic trees and colourful flowers, took lots of photos of the wonderful views. It's worth a visit and relax a bit in the tranquil surroundings.

Visit recommended by a guide book and certainly worth the travel. Quite varied planting and mostly long established. Our visit was very peaceful with few people other than gardeners encountered. A visit in February is not the time to see it in its full glory however there is still much to see.
Two points - if you are driving and your reach the top pay booth/entrance drive on to the car park in the centre of the gardens (saves the climb back up!) &
Be careful walking around as some of the footpaths are in a dreadfull condition.

A bit difficult to find but we really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and helpful. It wasn't very busy and we had a lovely couple of hours. It's fun for adults or children and a good idea for when it's raining or you wast a chill out.

I found this street in Funchal when I was exploring the city and it's a very colourful place to visit. Lots of shops and restaurants up and down the street and it's close to the marina area of town. It's famous for all the painted doors and it's a nice place to visit

If you've already made it up to Monte this is well worth the visit if only for the view. A steep set of steps leading up to the church. There is an option to go upstairs and get a better view of the church.
