Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Alfama is the Moorish quarter of Lisbon and the oldest surviving one. It was mostly intact after the 1755 earthquake. Hence it has the oldest feel among other Lisbon neighborhoods. It is very hilly and can be a bit tiresome to walk around. The streets are narrow and winding. But that is all part of the fun and the authenticity of the area. The highlight for me was the many viewing points or miradouros. My favorite was the Miradouro das Portas do Sol. The Castelo de S. Jorge is also located here which is an interesting place to visit and also offers magnificent views. You can take the tram 28 up to the area, which is in itself an interesting experience. Alternatively, you can walk up here if you're up for a challenge.

The building is quite massive from the outside and ornately decorated. I think the size on the outside gives a bit of a false impression on how big it is on the inside. It is still pretty interesting though and worth a visit. It is recommended to buy tickets online, although since we went early in the morning we didn't really have to queue. The church is also quite impressive and worth a visit.

The square is right by the river at the opposite end of Rossio square. It is quite large and impressive. It seems there is often an event or a concert going on as well. This is a good starting point to take the tram to Belem or simply walk there along the river.

I'm a big football fan, so I decided to visit this stadium, while I was in Lisbon. It was awesome. The stadium is huge and is very beautiful. There's a big Benfica sports team shop, and also an Adidas store with jerseys of football players of Benfica. I think it's a must visit when you're in Lisbon and if you're a big football or sports fan. We also visited the players dressing rooms. I recommend it a lot.

This is one of many viewpoints in Alfama. Although quite a distance from the other viewpoints, it is still very nice. It is also quite popular around sunset. To get there you can take the tram 28 to a nearby stop (R Graca) and walk a few minutes.

The Bairro Alto neighborhood is probably the district that holds true all the historic, charming attributes of Lisbon that people have in their minds. My visit here didn’t disappoint on this front. The steep, cobblestone streets with iconic Portuguese azulejos throughout offer picturesque vistas at every turn, and numerous restaurants/bars and boutiques are ready to serve you at all hours of the day. Since I used my electric wheelchair to navigate the neighborhood, I encountered some minor difficulties with the rugged terrain and bumpiness—the stronger your chair, the fewer issues you’ll come across.

This area is a must for all travelers!

This is one of many viewpoints in Alfama. From this one you can get a good view of the castle as well as the river. A nice stop while in Alfama.

This is a cool neighborhood in Lisbon. There are a lot of shops, especially the more high end ones. It's also famous for nightlife where people really spend time on the street around the bars.

The Nations park is a new neighborhood of Portugal capital in the northeast by the Tagus river. It was built for the World Expo 1998 and is easy reachable from downtown by bus, subway or car.
I'd advise planning at least half a day (with transportation) to visit the area highlights:
    - Oceanario Lisboa (one of world's best aquariums, see that review),
    - Telecabine Lisboa (scenic cable car ride along the Tagus),
    - Science museum,
    - Vasco de Gama shopping mall (huge) and bridge (one of the longest).

Very nice and impressive structure. Student discount, which was nice. I did not feel like it is an absolute must see, but if you are in the area you should check it out.

Having been to Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery it was just a short (and cheap) taxi ride to use our Lisboa card here. From the outside the building is grand but not different enough to make it stand out. It's only once you get inside and go from room to room where you see the impressive ceilings and the lavish furnishings and paintings in every room that you realise it is well worth the visit.

You can easily see everything in an hour, even though when we went there were covid pathways laid out to guide you from room to room and the place was pretty much desserted.

As with most places in Lisbon, if you have the time, they are well worth the visit and the Palace of Ayuda should be high on your list.

Yes, you can't ignore the similarity with the famous SF bridge - huge span with two huge pillars, very high to let big ships pass under and pretty long connecting Lisbon and its southern suburb of Almada. Also the color is similar - this one little darker red than SF's orange.
The bridge dates back to 20c '60s, being renamed after the Revolution overthrowing Salazar dictator's regime.
While this was my third time in Lisbon, it was the first time I drove over it when heading towards the Cristo Rei statue - no tolls southbound, but tolls northbound when returning to Lisbon.

This is a very impressive monument built in tribute of Portuguese explorers. You can see it in Belem or even better from a cruise on the river. You can also go inside and climb to the top, but I didn't think that was very necessary.

Beautiful historical site. The architecture and details on the arc is breath taking. I also recommend to see it at night when its illuminated. You can find multiple shops, restaurants and even a beach nearby.
