What travellers are saying
- Garnett40Sheffield, UK218 contributionsDo take a free walking tour to learn more about the old town and give you some ideas of places to visit and give you an insight into some of the things you would miss if you were not looking for them. Look out for the patterns in the cobbled streets and the differing architecture due to the earthquake in the 1750's
More developed than some of the other towns to the East and perhaps due to the development following the completing of the airport nearby.Written 3 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Ferry crossing 30 mins and very calm.Written 19 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Colliefan21177 contributionsVisited the beach while on holiday in faro . We'd got the bus - a bit of a walk from stop.
Beach was well worth it.
Clean , sandy had a good couple of hours in winter sun!
Plenty of bars/restaurants along front
Ferry taxi only €2 euros back to Faro
Public toilets a bit run down .Written 16 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Garnett40Sheffield, UK218 contributionsA recommendation from our walking tour and we were not disappointed - especially on a very wet October day. The church itself has some very impressive gold painted carved alcoves - the simple exterior belies the decoration inside. There is a brief guide available to buy which will help you understand what you are seeing.
Outside through a small garden, you can see a bones chapel (and more impressive than that in the Faro Cathedral) and worth a look - perhaps appropriate for a Halloween visit!Written 3 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Unfortunately Zara spoiled this as we were told to leave. Every other shop was very accommodating. Come on Zara this is 2024 not 1924- get with itWritten 10 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- munchkinkatySt. Catharines, Canada278 contributionsI took my mother here to see the gardens as she is a plant enthusiast. Good to know before you go: it's 3 Euro each to enter and the gardens are accessed by stairs. We saw the palatial parlours and most of the garden, but 3 Euro entrance is steep for what you get.Written 9 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Garnett40Sheffield, UK218 contributionsWe spent a pleasant hour at this lovely museum while the rain fell. It gave us a great opportunity to see the gargoyles funnelling water away from the edge of the buidling. The mosaic floor is perhaps what you will come here to see and represents part of Faro's early settlers. There are also roman artifacts as well as temporary exhibitions.
It has a very reasoanble entry fee - a few euros - but is cash only.Written 3 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tour group was small (5 on our one) and Paul tailored the content to those on it, was not your typical scripted generic offering. Excellent 1.5hrs, well worth it, highly recommended.Written 8 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GeryrEfailPontypridd, UK83 contributionsWorth a visit. An attractive church (if you like lots of carvings and artwork), with a gory chapel behind it including all of the skulls and bones. Pretty incredible collection really. It's hard to realize that these were proper humans with feelings and worries and lives.Written 31 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Garnett40Sheffield, UK218 contributionsA great view from the bell tower over Faro and worth the entry fee on its own. The small bones chapel is a little disappointing but the Cathedral is interesting, especially the organs, and the interior is plainer than you might expect. The earthquake which hit Portugal in 1755 has played a part in the recontruction of the Cathedral and the different stone colours outside give some indication of thisWritten 3 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jackie H.Tucson, AZ170 contributionsBusy kinda rough area but right at the entrance to the old town for parking and dining. The old town area is a must see! Nice marina area as well. During the day we felt safe and enjoyed it!Written 24 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Caitlin ALeeds, UK54 contributionsAlthough designed for kids I enjoyed this, particularly the session with lovely staff member who talked us through salt water creatures and let us touch sea cucumber, starfish, sea urchin and anemone. Only a few euros to go in and enjoyable way to spend an hour or so. Interactive displays with English and Portuguese written explanations.Written 10 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
