Our guide was Harold, and he explain many interesting things, also the caves tour was guide for him. We have an amazing experience thanks to Harold.

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Herbert C1,787 contributionsAs the largest public square in Maastricht, Vrijthof square is located right in the heart of the city, surrounded by some of the city's most historic heritage buildings dating back to the era coinciding with Maastricht's pivotal role as a religious centre and military fortress, including the Romanesque Basilica of St Servatius (Sint-Servaasbasiliek), the Gothic Church of St John (Sint-Janskerk) with its distinctive red tower, and the Military Guard House (Hoofdwacht). Formerly a burial site during the Roman period, this tree-lined square with underground parking is now a popular gathering and leisure spot as well as an important cultural hub, featuring various summer concerts and other public events. - Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,225 contributionsThis old Roman style basilica is one of the landmark buildings in the city. The side chapel with madonna statuette is still a center of Roman Catholic believers revering Mary. There always seem to be devotees.
The main structure of the building dates from the 11 and 12th centuries which is very old by Dutch standards and explaining why the church was built in Roman style. The small windows do not let in a lot of light. The low curved arches attribute to the robust monumental apperance of the building. If you do pay, you see an impressive collection of treasures, a lovely cloister, and Romanesque archway. - Herbert C1,787 contributionsA working medieval-era water mill right in the centre of Maastricht? Well, this is definitely one sight that you would not ordinarily see in a city centre. The Bisschopsmolen (Bishop's Mill) has been around for close to 1,000 years, dating back to the 11th century and is the oldest still-working water mill in the Netherlands. Located in the Jeker quarter within a short walk from the Basilica of Our Lady, the mill also houses a bakery and a small eatery. Although the eatery was closed when I visited. I still managed to view the mill's water wheel by following the alleyway to the back of the building. Nothing epitomises this more than the stretch of the historic city walls and city gates skirting the city’s fringe, and the most well-known city gate is none other than Hells Gate (Helpoort) which dates back to the 13th century, making it the oldest surviving city gate in the Netherlands. - Herbert C1,787 contributionsIn a country where eye-popping funky architecture is a norm, you will easily be treated with a feast of stunning architectural designs that will certainly grab your attention wherever you go in the Netherlands. In Maastricht, the impressive Bonnefanten Museum overlooking the Meuse River in the revitalized industrial site of Ceramique and currently houses a museum of fine art, will certainly captivate you with its chic architecture. Designed by the Italian architect, Aldo Rossi, this modern building with an eccentric cupola resembles a rocket at its launchpad. - Herbert C1,787 contributionsThe Sint Servaasbrug is a stone-arch bridge comprising 7 arches and a separate steel drawbridge that spans across the Meuse River. Named after St Servatius, the first bishop of Maastricht, this is just one of the few iconic landmarks in the city named after this patron saint of Maastricht. A statue of the saint can also be found on the bridge, but you would need an eagle eye to spot it! You will surely cross this cyclist cum pedestrian bridge as you walk from the central train station to the mazy shopping streets of Binnenstad in the city centre. Dating back to the 13th century, it has often been regarded as the oldest surviving bridge in the Netherlands, although it was largely rebuilt after World War II. fascinating really !
it is a trip back to the past and very vivid and colourful. the buildings are vaste and astonishing, packed with history and also a treat for Non Beer lovers.
you see all, from the malt to the bottlery and even can see the private house where the last heir of Bosch lived until 2008 !
at the end, of course, some beer tasting is possible in a very nice historic room, de Ridder zaal, named after the previous competition of the Bosch Brewery (funny, but logic, this is a non profit house and the Ridder Brewery is gone forever including the buildings etc and here some of their treasures are honoured with respect in this hall)
