We walked from the Basilica di San Francesco to the other side of Assisi to see this, and the walk itself was worth the time and effort (beautiful streets, views down into the Arno valley, shops, cafes).

What possesses some people to rate one site against another as if historic and artistic expression were some kind of beauty pageant?
The site has a good explanation in English.
Rocca Maggiore
#15 of 71 Sights & Landmarks in Assisi
This is an amazing area, well worth a visit, the views on top, of Assisi and the mountains on the other side are amazing, I could spend all day up here exploring.
We spent about half an hour on one of the turrets, which gives you a panoramic view of the Umbria countryside, and the freedom and lack of people around the castle made us feel like we were back in the 14th century.
