Great place overrun in October. You can thank the producers of White Lotus for ruining Taormina for everyone. The city is gorgeous with some wonderful restaurants and sights. Unfortunately half the world wants to see it. Amphitheater is truly remarkable but get there early as the tour groups descend upon it in hordes You’ll probably still go but don’t say you weren’t warned.

We paid 15 euros for the “full ticket”. This is the best thing we spent money on the whole trip, it was so so worth it. It’s the most beautiful cathedrale i’ve ever seen… and the roof top view…. woah

The highlight is the Palatine Chapel—a must see in Palermo! It looks like it was just built. Would have loved to attend Mass here.

Wow the drive here through the winding roads is quite thrilling! The train would be cool too. Very very hilly and takes time to go to the old city.

This place is magnificent. If you truly love ancient history you might want to hire a full day private tour with the amazing Sabrina Murgano and do the ruins of Morgantina and the museum as well as the Villa .

Very moving experience especially seeing the younger persons who were placed there. A UNESCO world heritage site, it was creepy to see those who were mummified. €5 is very good price for this. My only critique is that they need to enforce people to be quiet as some brought young children who do not know how to respect the dead.

This doesn’t really need another five star review, but other recent reviews mention building works so I thought it worth recording that when we went on 18 September we were able to see everything. Well worth doing the full tour. Don’t miss the absolutely lovely cloister.

We did not expect to find this museum so interesting. The restored tuna factory of the Florio family tells the story of tuna fishing and its importance to the local economy. The history of tuna fishing in the area is very interesting and the building is beautiful. We’re so glad we made the visit.

Loved this walk. The road starts at catania gate and ends at the other side. Full of shops, full of eateries, full of mini plazas, and churches. Listen, the mornings ARE PACKED WITH TOUR GROUPS, to the point of getting annoyed, but on the whole: the experience of this street is fun and wonderful. Loved the choice of boutiques!

Piazza del Duomo is the most well known public square in Catania. Several landmark buildings are around the square including the cathedral, Catania City Hall, and Palazzo degli Elefanti. Other landmarks worth taking a look include the Fontana dell’Amenano and Fountain of the Elephant.

Standing prominently in Piazza Duomo is the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Holy Nativity of Mary, aka Syracuse Cathedral. The building is a beautiful example of Italian Baroque architecture in Sicily. The façade displays has a very complex design and superb workmanship. The façade has three bays divided by composite columns, and two levels separated by the curved frame of the entablature that follow the column capitals. This can be seen very clearly just above the entrance where there’s a monumental broken pediment with a statue of Mary seemingly hovering over the open space above the pediment. Another notable feature of the exterior is the entrance gate to the atrium. It's a wrought iron gate with elaborate traceries and outstanding workmanship. Just beyond this gate is a beautiful door with Solomonic columns flanking the entrance.

The interior of the church has a simpler design and seems to have been originally a Neoclassical building as the nave is divided into three sections separated by Romanesque arches and Doric columns. Unlike many other cathedrals, the interior does not show smooth plastered walls and columns, or articulated friezes that would normally decorate naves. Notable features of the inside are the pulpits, the high altar and the Chapel of Santa Lucia.

All the seating is in the central nave. Just in front of the high altar is the pulpit, which looks like it’s been designed in the style of a throne where the armrests are shaped into lions in repose. Between the pulpit and high altar is the choir with seats arrayed against opposite sides of the walls. The high altar is almost Rococo with white stone and gold decorations. Composite columns support a curved entablature, surmounted by urns ending in flaming dish finial.

The chapel that seems to hold the most reverence is the Chapel of Santa Lucia, located on the right nave, close to the entrance/exit. The church houses a number of relics of St. Lucy, the patron of Syracuse, and these are held in the chapel. Relics include bone fragments, a robe, a veil, and a pair of shoes.

Everywhere you look in central Noto is a stunning building. It is quite surreal to walk around. Most of the churches can be entered just for a donation but no set entrance fee.

Amongst the historical wonders are lots of nice retail and food and beverage outlets.

    An amazing place to visit.

We loved Cefalu and the beautiful little lanes,
People at restaurants very friendly and food wonderful.
It was such a shame to be greeted at the railway station at Cefalu, with a message just above the Welcome Sign written in English No tickets no information
and with a girl in the office looking bored with her legs up on the desk.
Not a good example of Italian hospitality

This was a fascinating visit - really interesting history and building, filled with lovely things. Excellent tour. Wonderful that it is still a home, lived in and loved. Highly recommend this visit. Allow time to find it - fairly neat the cathedral but in the backstreets
