Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is an amazingly beautiful Bascilica from 1335. The highlight is the statue of Mary holding baby Jesus behind the altar. The story behind the statue is as follows. In 1370, here was a terrible storm at sea and the captain feared the boat would sink. So the crew threw the cargo overboard. When the last large crate was thrown overboard, the storm stopped. The crate floated to Cagliari and rested on its shores. No one could open the crate, and a boy went to get the friar. The friars were able to carry the crate to the church and were able to open it. When they opened it, they saw the statue of Mary holding baby Jesus and in her right hand was a lighted candle. The statue behind the altar is that same statue. In the back of the church, you can see the crate on display. Regardless of your belief in this story, the Bascilica is well worth visiting as it is beautiful. Be sure to walk to the back where you will find another church as well with a very beautiful altar. Both churches have beautiful paintings, statues, ceilings and other artwork.

Beautiful little church with unique turquoise roof at one end .
It has great views of the port from its vantage point.
You could easily miss it coming into Porto Cerva, so keep an eye out for it.

Even if you are not a history and culture fan, this church might impress you, a true piece of romanesque art/architecture. Unfortunatelly the monasterial part collapsed, but it is still visible it used to be an important religious place.

Not typical of many other churches, we’ve been in which are decorated and shiny things this one’s exclusively old stonework we didn’t pay a fee in so I’m not sure if they collected only on certain days or what

We visited Orune for the last weekend of Autunno in Barbagia and couldn’t skip the opportunity to see this ancient and mystical temple. The grounds are beautiful and well curated while maintaining the purity of the wildness of Sardinia. The trails are marked with handcrafted signs marking the flora and fauna of the area which keeps the trail interesting. There are a couple traditional pastoral dwellings along the way and when you arrive at the Temple it is truly awe inspiring. Imagining that humans constructed this temple thousands of years ago is mind boggling when you see the detail and the precision in each stone. Highly recommend this off the beaten path find.

Beautiful little church in the middle of town. Has some really nice mosaic pictures as you walk along. It isn't very big but still worth seeing. AND ITS FREE! A must see if you like visit old school churches.

A lovely tiled dome, a number of opulent chapels and other expressive details are the highlights of this great church in the heart of Alghero.

This church has so much importance for the original inhabitants of the capital of Sardinia. It is from here that the Island's major feast on 1st May starts from. Since 366 years ago and even during the WW2 bombings.

It's a pretty simple church, but the true gem is underground. Burial chambers were used between the 2nd and 7th centuries. Very interesting, accessible on a guided visit.

Easily visible from the road, six km east the black church of Santa Maria del Regno, this great church with a campanile and remains of associated buildings. The entrance opens to a narthex, above which were 3 rooms reached by a narrow stair. The first with a bench and a chimney, was the chapter house, beside which was the Bishp’s Chapel. The church is oddly coherent with uniform columns, and an apse splendidly placed above a low cliff

Really interesting site, and very well kept. The people working at the information desk are extremely kind and efficient. The site is rather extended, it's nice to walk around and visit the different parts. Everything is well explained. The sacred well is unique! (See photo)

As with any Italian church, not without interesting features, but is undergoing significant interior renovation as of mid-2023. I expect it to be dazzling when the works end.

Loved that they painted the stairs rainbow colors leading up to the church. We drove fifty minutes specifically to take pictures of this. Worth it.
